Re: Does your Historic stay in tune ??

the stock setup is always high. It has to not buzz in a store and be adaptable to everyone's playing style. Easy to take a nut and action down, not easy to raise it up.

I find the factory tuners to be just fine. Tuning problems are usually the nut, sometimes as said above the strings aren't lock wrapped on the tuner or stretched properly.

Re: Does your Historic stay in tune ??

I bend strings a lot and have had a lot of problems with historics but it is not the tuners. I agree it is poorly cut nuts which trap the strings and today I have just recieved a Normans' Nut File System off ebay to sort out my historic 335.

The nut is a tricky thing !! You don't have a tech to do that ? Unless of course you have good guitar skills ! Oohh welcome to the forum !!

Re: Does your Historic stay in tune ??

I have just re-cut the nut on my two 59 historic les pauls and my 335; these files are easy to use ( first time i have done this) and I cannot recommend them highly enough.

My R0 stays in tune surprisingly well. Didn't think the Klusons would.

Re: Does your Historic stay in tune ??

There's nothing wrong with the stock tuners in terms of functionality. If the guitar won't stay in tune long it's because of an improperly cut nut or incorrect stringing technique.

But when they don't, it's always the "G" IME (not just Historics, either). But on my Strats it's always the "B". Gotta love Teles.

Re: Does your Historic stay in tune ??

I tuned mine once when I got it (last Friday). So far it hasn't gone out of tune (I check before I play). So I'm very pleased, my last guitar would go out of tune after about 30 minutes.

Yes. I do use graphite on the nuts though. I'm going to be replacing them with bone sometime in the near future.

Re: Does your Historic stay in tune ??

Cleaning out the slots in the nut periodically and using graphite can do wonders. The tuners can then do what they are meant to do, and not get blamed for all of the tuning issues people encounter.

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I went through a period with the tuner key accusal

It always ends up being the nut.

Re: Does your Historic stay in tune ??

My tuning problems are also nut related - the tuners are fine. So is the concensus that some sort of nut lube is a fact of life with a Gibson guitar? I have never used any lube.

Re: Does your Historic stay in tune ??

I voted... The only thing that seems to affect the tuning on my R8 is the temperature.

Re: Does your Historic stay in tune ??

YES! No tuning probs. I do find a difference between the tuners on my G0 and the old kluson tuners on the 61 SG I have. The new tuners are constructed better.

Re: Does your Historic stay in tune ??

My problem is not with the tuners, it's with the nature of guitars. If I'm perfectly in tune with, say, an open A chord, then a barred A chord at the fifth fret is out of tune. the usual culpret is the B string, sometimes the high E.

Anyone else have this problem? What did you do?
