Bought this today from Chris in San Diego. I bought my R9 from him and couldn't resist an R8. Hasn't arrived yet but no harm in linking the photos.

You did Great on this one..I emailed him right after he listed. I asked JimmyAce what it would be worth as a righty he said..$8-10,000. I emailed Chris and seriously thought about converting to a Righty but too much trouble. THEN! i thought about just buying for lefty freinds

I have a ´98 R9 and I can tell you Gibson had something going for them that year, both regarding looks and tone. ENJOY and rock on !!!!

Thanks fellas. 9lbs on this one. I have a collector's grade 65' Fender Bandmaster as well as a 98' 1957 Black Beauty Custom (WB Spicy Peppers wound with 1957 wire and a full Faber Master Kit) that I will be selling off to fund the R8. But I have to do what I have to do to get a top like that in the arsenal right?

R8's dont bring anywhere near 8-10K

Actually the Lefty is far more rare of a bird than a righty, although there is a much larger market for righty's. I cant remember when I last saw a 93-98 'Goodwood" Lefty guitar. In anycase this is a beauty and certainly a rarity.

Well it's one of those guitars that won't be sold. You never say never I guess but that top is too rare to sell off.

98 was definitely a good year for Lefty R8 tops. Here's a pic of my Lefty 98 R8....I was thinking of selling it to fund a nice 12 fret OO Acoustic, but I know deep down, I would always regret it. These are not "dime a dozen" Lefty's and tops like yours (and to me, mine) are truly stunning and unique, making these Lifetime guitars.

Congrat's on your purchase and I look forward to a review, once it arrives. I'm sure the Leftyfrets folks would be interested too.

I don't remember saying 8-10K; I thought I said 6-8K? And either way, it was purely speculation since I am not an expert on this era....yet. I have seen the biggest tops from the 90s go for much more on R9s. But this one is a little harder to nail down, being an R8 lefty with a really nice top, though not what I would classify as a monster. And I agree that the R9s will bring more cash. Either way, I believe it was listed for around $4500 or less, which is a really great deal on a superb instrument. The top and coloring look phenominal. Congrats!

Very optimistic 'guestimate' on value, even if it was a righty (by about 2X). I'll agree on the other point, that is one of the nicest tops I've seen in a long while.
