G0
Just want ya'lls opinions. How do you think a G0 VOS Plain Top is looked upon. It's a great player and no issues and has R0 stamped in the control cavity. I just wondered if since they had a G0 serial number if they were looked at as 2nd rate.
Just curious..........too much time on my hands .Fudd

Re: G0
G0's are great guitars as well, not looked down on at all, as far as I know.
Any pics? ![]() BB

Re: G0
I don't think anyone 'looks down' on a G0, if you like the thin neck they are a best buy.
I think you get that impression though when guys call them R0s, which you see sometimes. IMO the G0 is to the R0 as the R8 is to the R9, plain top, less expensive. The other thing about the G0 is that it is not officially part of the historic line, but that's only because it is exclusive to Guitar Center, nothing to do with the guitar spec.

Re: G0
I'm not disputing any of that, but I don't understand how it can't be a "true historic" when Gibson puts R0 in the control cavity
. Also the fact that it comes from the Custom Shop. Just a plain top in Lemon Burst which is what I wanted. It's just confusing to me, Gibson Historic model classification is a new experience to me. I'm used to Martin numbering, not that I always understand that . Thanks for all of your input.Fudd

Re: G0
i think that's a question that will be best answered in 10 years or so - will they hold their value against the flametop R9s and R0s?
as far as playability, i love my G0. i got it to use as a stage guitar so i wouldn't have to gig with my R9 and it's every bit as good (or better) than many R8s, R9s, and R0s that i've played. The G0's a great value and pretty much the exact same guitar as an R0. it makes you wonder if flamed maple is really worth $2500 more than a good slab of plain maple and, if not, how overpriced are these guitars to begin with? |

Re: G0
fudd-
I'm curious why you get the impression that the G0 is 2nd rate? According to Gibson the G0 has the same Historical specs as the R0 except for the 60's style neck and the tops. Oh and the serial numbering sequence is different only because it is exclusive to GC. Personally I LOVE my G0 and am damned proud to have one in my collection! If anything you should consider it even more unique than the R0 as it basically is a CUSTOM made R0 with the changes I listed above! ![]() Rock On! |

Re: G0
I love mine! I got it less than a month ago and I couldn't be happier. I dont even play my LP Classic anymore. I just swapped out the knobs and added pointer washers!

Re: G0
Wow those are some awesome Les Pauls
. The more I see the plain top the more I like it.Hemply it just seems like some people consider them less than an R0, I suppose because of the Guitar Center tag. I've seen references to people buying them for a beater guitar .I love mine and it's the best Paul I've played. Solid, heavy, and plays like butter. I really like the neck and the intonation is dead on. Setup is amazing and feels like it was setup just for me. At any rate I couldn't be happier with mine .Fudd

Re: G0
G0's are awesome. Even before I knew what they were, it was the "one" I wanted. I hear all the GC bashing but about 2 years ago I walked into the local GC where I live and saw one hanging on the wall. I wasn't able to get one then and opted for a Std Faded 50's neck (great guitar as well). I recently came across an 04 and snagged it. It wasn't getting away this time. There is something about the lemon burst and plain top that just does it for me. Don't get me wrong, I love them all, flames, ebony, white, and especially GT's, but the G0 is it IMHO.

It's not an R0, it's a G0. Don't consider it something it's not. Be proud of what it is. As I said above, this is like saying some people consider an R8 to be less than an R9. It is, by a couple thousand dollars or so.

Re: G0
I almost bought a G0 from GC a while back...it was a really nice guitar, and the next wasn't too small which is my problem with 60's necks. They made me a nice deal, and then when I was at the counter ready to pay, told me that it didn't come with a case or COA...I walked.

Re: G0
Thats a sad story. What store would sell this kind of guitar and not have a case and all the candy that it should come with? Thats why they get such a bad rap. Unless the cost was extremely low, then I could understand.
About G0's being called R0's, I agree with dwagar. As Abe Lincoln put it: "How many legs does a dog have if you call the tail a leg? Four. Calling a tail a leg doesn't make it a leg.
