As the buyer why didn't you demand FedEx Express and overnight service for a guitar of that value?? I would have refused to buy it without the agreement of overnight service. FedEx ground has nothing to do with FedEx Express, they aren't even actual FedEx employees. It's all sub contracted work. Any of the shipping companies can suck on any given day but by far FedEx ground is the worst from my experience!! In the past I've had them leave 4-6K valued packages at my store front door with no signature for 2-3 hours before I open!!

I always have guitars shipped to me overnight (unless I pick it up in person at Mark's!); it's worth the upcharge for the piece of mind, and the much better service.

Agree that pretty much all shipping services will screw you at some point. Kind of like airlines...you pick your poison.

I had a package lost when somebody sent it to me overnight with FedEx and it was a PITA trying to track it down. It was never found. Again, there's no clear winner as far as shippers go.

A guitar like that, I would have flown to the seller and escorted her home.

I was thinking "Runaway Bride" could be another name candidate for the Stinger. On a side note, that lady is from my hometown.

This seller had over 11,000 transactions and most were high end guitars............I assumed......and you know what happens when you assume..............

I have told this story before, but for those of you that haven’t heard it.
I had a guitar shipped to me by Delta Dash Package Service.
The same day, in fact the total transaction was just over 5 hours
from the time I paid for the guitar, until I was home with it.
The story goes like this;
I went to the bank when it opened, and wire transferred the money
to a bank in Texas. I went home and waited to hear from the seller.
About 45 minutes after I got home, the seller called and said his bank
confirmed the transfer, and he was at the Delta Airlines “Delta Dash”
counter and gave me the “Airbill Number”. I went on to the Delta
Website and found the tracking information, which gave me the flight
number and arrival time in Philly. A half hour before the flight arrived,
I went to Philly International and found the Delta Dash counter and
checked in. I watched the monitor and saw the flight number change
from “On Time”, to “Arrived”, to “At Gate”. About a half hour after the
plane was at the gate, a cart was pulled up to the counter, and there was
the guitar. The best experience I have ever had shipping a guitar, but you
need a willing seller, the time to go to the airport, and of course a package
service airport near both of you. This was about 5 years ago, and the cost
was under $150.00.

I always use Fedex overnight, with hold for pickup at the main depot here. I don't want a guitar driving around in some goof ball's truck.

as a matter of fact, it was Mark that taught me that when I bought my R9.

I was playing out in the street with a couple friends when a UPS truck pulled up at his house. i worked at UPS for a year after getting out of high school. we always said UPS was pronounced "OOPS". for real any packages marked fragile might as well have a bullseye on them. if it said glass it means if you drop it you'll get a cool baby rattle sound. if the conveyor belts got overloaded at the end they would smack the packages off onto the floor and since the belts and catwalks are elevated the packages would drop about 5 feet which may as well be a cliff to an improperly packaged guitar falling on the headstock. i refuse to send packages UPS till this day and that was 14 years ago.

on a lighter note lost packages are LOST and eventually turn up (sometimes one dislexic employee may send the package to the wrong transfer hub and usually the packages that end up like this get pushed aside until they can be sorted and the barcodes scanned). packages getting stolen are rare because unless the sender is a jeweler guys arent going to want to take the chance of thiefing a package that may contain shit, not to mention that the over the road drivers have no access to the contents of the trailers, they are sealed and checked upon arrival.

No, it's not. Yet I think my support of our anxiety-ridden Les Paul mate has been quite clear. I just don't think asking someone "what's f'n wrong with you" even borders on acceptable.
