2009 '59 50th Anni with Bigsby Value Question

Hey guys and gals.

I'm considering buying the above guitar (I'm a sucker for Bigby's) and just wanted to get your opinion on prices.

I'm pretty new to the LP world but have lusted after them for years. The sticker price is $6557, but I'm getting a way better price than that and I got to get it delivered to Australia and then add 10% GST. I know things are worth what you want to pay for them, but I'd love to get your thoughts. I love the guitar, but want to get it for the right price.

BTW, I know there's only 25 made worldwide, but I'm not falling for that because they probably do that every year.

Thanks.

That's a beautiful guitar. I got my R9 for $4800. It may be a lot cheaper to get a reissue without a bigsby, then have one put on. Unless you are getting a slamming deal, which you may. Good luck in your quest!

Cool, thanks for the help. My price is a bit more than that but includes the shipping to Oz. I don't know if I'd want to get a RI and then have someone drilling around on it. Me thinks me would rather have a factory Bigsby.

That's not the actual guitar btw, the one I'm looking at is an Amber Honey Burst colour. To my tastes, it looks even more stunning than the pic I posted.

Re: 2009 '59 50th Anni with Bigsby Value Question

I love Bigsby LP's..To me they are very Historic looking and the one you're looking at is Pretty Awesome not to mention its a low run. Check out that board very nice. I have a 58ri Bisgsy and love the tone. IMO the Bigsby adds something special to the tone even if you don't use it. Don't hesitate snap that one up. Also, check out the BOTB book the Bigsby LP's they have in there are Super Cool. What kind of Certificate does she come with?

I ordered BOTB today from Amazon. I'm looking forward to flicking through it.

Regarding the certificate, are you referring to a COA or something such? I got to get in contact with the seller to see what's included such as the case and the candy. Not really knowing much about RI R9 50th Anni, I'm not sure what they come with. I need to more research. Am I right in assuming these guitars are Gibson Custom Shop guitars?

Re: 2009 '59 50th Anni with Bigsby Value Question

I really like Bigsby's too.
I didn't want to pay the higher price for a guitar that already had one mounted.
There was no way I was going to drill holes in my R8 Flametop,
so I bought an inexpensive Wine Red Studio Les Paul with gold hardware and bought and mounted the Bigsby myself.

I have just a little over $1,000 in the below Guitar.

I also mounted a Bigsby on my modified "Lucille" (shown below too).

Yes, you should get some kind of certificate along the lines of this one listed. This one on the Bay is cool but not as nice as the one you're looking at. imo

GIBSON LES PAUL CS R8 58 1958 STANDARD BIGSBY GLOSS | eBay

And yes will be a Custom Shop LP.

Great guitars DJ. Bigsby's certainly add something to the look of Les Pauls.

Thanks for the info JPP, it's always nice to be able to delve into a deep pool of knowledge

if that gets sent by ems, usps ect any sort of government run postal service there's a good chance you'll miss that 10% GST.
be prepared to pay it if you have to but postal packages aren't done by the same scrutiny & process as fedex, dhl ect delivered packages.

This is straight from the customs mouth after fedex ****ed around with a guitar once.I always wondered why I never paid GST on any of my gretsches sent by usps ....

Mate, that would be awesome if I didn't have to pay GST!!! I've already factored it in, so it will be a nice little bonus if I don't have to pay it.

I shall ask the seller who they ship with. Hopefully they don't use the package as a football, seen that happen before.

yeah anything posted just gets scanned for drugs bombs ect but via a commercial carrier it's given the full treatment via customs & quarantine, which can run an extra $120, even if it is under a $1000

Re: 2009 '59 50th Anni with Bigsby Value Question

Well, I made the decision and made the big jump and bought the guitar from Wildwood Guitars.

Here's the link to the new thread I started with pictures of the actual guitar, not the picture I posted:

Just bought my first ever Les Paul

Thanks for all your help and advice.

Regards,

René
