57 Historic Ebony ?

Hello everyone , new to this forum and have a question about Gibson Historic 57 Standard Les Paul.
I really would like a solid body Historic LP and i can't stand the Chambered or Weight Relieved bodies that comes in the other models offered by Gibson.
I currently have a 07 smartwood chambered studio and had a weight relieved standard (1990) but just can't jive with the tones i get out of them. I've tried all kinds of pickup, pots and setups and i still can't get the fat solid body tones that i've always hear in the Historic LP's.
I know the Custom shop made the 57 Black Beauty LPC but have they ever made a 57 Historic LP Standard in Ebony (Not just a black top) ?

Re: 57 Historic Ebony ?

You may simply have some less than steller gits. IF you've changed everything and can't live the sound it still may not the chambering /weight relief. To my knowledge weight relief is undetectable and chambering does sound a little more lively unplugged but plugged in the 09 STD I tried sounded fine, just a tad too light for my tastes.
Some Historics can really sing but that's the hand picked mahogany stock at work and not all are great either I hear but I digress.
Why not try searching out some and see for yourself?

Re: 57 Historic Ebony ?

Gibson has made them from time to time, not very many since the 57 reissues are mostly goldtops. I found an ebony '07 57 RI not too long ago and am thrilled with it. I haven't seen one since but they do exist, be patient, it will find you.

Bare in mind though that whatever tone you are seeking may still elude you, all my historics sound different from each other. Don't think I could tell you which sounds better either, I love them all.
