Re: R8 2001 burstbucker 2/3
I'll check up on the serial number however I was just confused that there's only written '#2' on the PU with inkpen. How should I know which PU if the seller hadn't told me?

Re: R8 2001 burstbucker 2/3
Well that its what we need to stablish, at what point in the serial production was the PU change from 57' to BBs.
Strange is that there is no PAF sticker, but they are delicate and can come off easily. Some of the experts here need to clarify this writen numbers as i cant recall that practice. |

Re: R8 2001 burstbucker 2/3
From what i was told..Historics and Reissues had Classic 57 in them in 2001. BUT like Nicolas said, maybe the Big guns can give a more precise info.

Re: R8 2001 burstbucker 2/3
Then i believe those are not the originals PUs as your s/n is lower then mine and my R8 is all original and has the classics.
I doubt that they used BBs and the classics and then BBs again. |

Re: R8 2001 burstbucker 2/3
Burstbuckers were available in Japanese exports since 1996.

Re: R8 2001 burstbucker 2/3
2001 Custom Authentics (r8, r7) came stock with Burstbucker 2 & 3.
One easy way to tell if you have a custom authentic is that they came stock with Grover tuners. |

By very early 2002 (if not a little sooner) the Grovers were gone. The CA's have a slightly (better to me) different sound, as the added mass of the Grovers seems to allow for better sustain. |

Re: R8 2001 burstbucker 2/3
thanks a lot for all the feedback; I'm really glad for this guitar but was just wondering what exact model and pickups config it came with.
Does anybody know what the selling price for a R8 custom authentic historic reissue was in 2001 |

did not get the grovers or the BBs. This inconcistensy makes me believe his guitar is a special market oriented editions, if you look at the many other fromthis forum or the historical serial website there are very few with grovers. |

I don't know how many Custom Authentics were made in 2001, but the number has to be very small... also meaning a small amount of Historic R8's that ever had Grovers. Also take into account, the "Custom Authentic" package had an upcharge of something like $300. Most people thought it was weird to pay extra for a guitar that was aged.... They should look up the term "Murphy". LOL |

Re: R8 2001 burstbucker 2/3
ALL 2001 '58 Custom Authentics came with Burstbucker 2&3 pickups, the "Authentic" dulled finish and aged parts including Grover tuners. The Grover tuners were dropped in 2002. The regular series gloss finish R8's came with '57 classic into the first quarter of 2002.

Here is confusing part: My 2001 R8...........s/n 8 1220 is gloss finish, ´57 PUs and tulip tuners. kjolstad 2001 R8....s/n 8 1158 dull finish, BBs PUs and grover tunes. Both guitars are from 2001, mine is not 2002 so there most be a batch of 2001 thats came like mine. |

Re: R8 2001 burstbucker 2/3
There is nothing confusing with your examples.
Gloss finish/Klusons/57 Classics Dulled finish/Grovers/BBs That's they way they came in '01. There were a lot of Custom Authentics around, as well as the glossy finish regular R8s. |
