not per the serial number 9 31304... but I'm not real clear on boards by looks. Back of a Martin, yeah no problem...

I'd say so! If you had some greened knobs and lighter PU rings, it'd be a deadringer!

I was that guitar's original (and only) owner until about five or six months ago — definitely a nice one! Congrats.

I couldn't find a '58 like mine but Mark Knopfler has a 58 that is similar in color.

Just saw this post! So can you tell me a little about the mod's you did to it? Tips, pigtail, real BB's... anything else?

You traded it in at 30th St?

BOTB poster child

Hello -

New here from SoCal ...Great site !

Guess this BOTB thread is a good one for me to jump in...

Here is my #1:

  • 2009 Limited Edition Gibson Custom 50th Anniversary 1959 Les Paul Sunburst Reissue (Released after initial gold COA 50th release)
  • Murphy Aged
  • Burnt Orange Teaburst (BOTB)

From Gibson: "The Limited Edition Gibson 50th Anniversary 1959 Les Paul Sunburst in Burnt Orange Teaburst finish is the model on the cover of Yasuhiko Iwanade's The Beauty of the Burst - Only 25 of these Gibson 50th Anniversary B.O.T.B. '59 Les Paul guitars made".

Most of these were VOS, and I feel lucky to find a Murphy as I personally like the relics because I like to use all my gear and don't like to worry about putting the first ding in a perfect gloss, and besides - The BOTB cover model shows her age a bit so it just feels right to have Murphy'd this one.

Best y'all,

JD

You traded it in at 30th St?
The mods that you listed pretty much cover it. The tips are Uncle Lou tips on stock Gibson Historic-spec tuners. The tailpiece is an older one from when Steve Rowen was still alive. Yes, the capacitors are 1950s Spragues, but if I recall correctly, they are rated at 600 volts rather than 400 volts (IMO, no difference in sound). I'm pretty sure the potentiometers are also replacements, too — as I recall, they are CTS and they all read in from about 500K to 550K.

I didn't trade it to 30th Street; I sold it to 30th Street.

If you ever reach a point where you're pondering selling that guitar, let me know. Of the two-or-so dozen reissues I've owned, that one was my girlfriend's favorite.

Thanks for the feedback- much appreciated. I eventually want to do the same thing to my R7.

Will let you know if ever, but moving it along is not in the plans any time soon! This is a special one...

Everyone's burst looks the same...... If I didn't know any better I would think the Epiphone Veneer looked better

The wow factor goes out the door when everyone and their grandma has the same "BURST" flame. It's like the first sexual experience... you seen one you seen them all no matter how much they b1tch and moan they have the best p00n.

Yep, just like everyone's fingerprints are the same...

Thanks for the constructive comments, I'll console myself with my generic Epiphone wannabe R9 I worked so hard for, for 10 years to own.

Boy did I waste my time!!!

It is perfectly clear - You don't "know any better" ... Les Pauls or Sex or my sweet ol' Grandma's R9.
