1959/2009 Les paul
Here is your chance to tell Gibson what you think the 50th anniversary LP should be:
My thoughts : 1.There should be in limited run 1959 2. Gibson should hire Max to oversee & approve the project on a consultant level to oversee wood selection & specks 3.accurate 50's inlays ,plastics & switch tips & hardware (Pigtail), Tuner buttons ( uncle Lou’s select) & special run PAF pickups by WB Pickups 4. 59 should be reliced & finished by DW Johnson vintage restorations ( including B.O.T.B limited finshes) & included a reliced lifton correct case |

Re: 1959/2009 Les paul
that sounds like way too much outsourcing too be realistic, although gibson has used aftermarket stuff before just not boutique. I dont think it would be worthwhile for DJ or WB to do it either because gibson would want it done at a price and number that would both consume them totally and at a price below what they can charge aftermarket customers. It doesnt sound like Dave is short on customers right now, so why would he take on work below what he can charge his already backlogged list.

Re: 1959/2009 Les paul
I think they should outsource the whole lot - they'd still make a small fortune in profits because it'll be an officially Gibson endorsed product... would sell like hotcakes in a limited quantity run - they could name their price.

![]() What on earth were they thinking!?!?!?! If Gibson can only come up with crap like that and put a price tag over $7K for it...I see a 59 50th anniversary going for over $15K with nothing different done except the serial no. Not unrealistic when you look at the price diff. with normal R7 and R9s There will be a line a mile long to have a "50th" R9 so they will make sure they milk it for every penny! I believe there are three customers for these Gibsons... 1. Has Burst envy so bad they will pay anything to get as close having a burst as possible. 2. Have worked hard and are in a position in their life that they can have the finer things and are willing to pay whatever it takes to have one. 3. Have never played a Burst or even a R9, but read nothing but endless posts about how your not a real guitarist unless you have one and will sell their children to the black market to have one. I'm option 4: While I would like one, I have my priorities, and a 50th anniversary LP isn't even in the top 10.

Re: 1959/2009 Les paul
I do not recall Gibson EVER doing an annversary model of a 58. They had a Standard 58 back in 72, which was based on a 54! They have had 30th anniversary GTs in 81-83. They even had a 30th anniversary Deluxe. They have not had a 60RI either.
Oh NO! NOT a signature model!!!! Are they going to do an Eric Clapton? The one that was stolen and NEVER recovered? |

Re: 1959/2009 Les paul
That is incredibly disappointing, not that you can't tell, but the fact that it will be a signature model. I don't want a signature model.

![]() ![]() truley I dont think they realized how they made most of em anyways hell they cant all be identical when I study my botb most dont even look close to being speced same and think of all the missing ones, wonder what they must have been like. all that said Ive never touched a real burst, hell Ive never even seen one except in my books. Some of u guys are truly lucky to own one! But Im also proud of the guitars I own. But then again maybe I'll get the chance to touch one then Ill truly know (Fact or Fiction) Hell Maybe my fever is to high again.

Re: 1959/2009 Les paul
a run of hand crafted 1959 les paul standards in the old finishing lacker with aged classic 57 humbuckers light back with as many vintage touches as they can cram into the guitar eg stamped serial numbers, original top hat strap buttons, bumble bee resistors open back vintage tulip pearloid tuners.
and try to really make the guitar look spectacular hand pick the mahogany for grain symmetry and definition. bone nuts dark rosewood fingerboards flat vintage frets you could go on and on but I'll leave it there |
