My '07 R0 will soon be a Gold Top
One of my keeper R0's is this '07 R0.
Teaburst VOS with a dark back. I've always dug Gold Tops.My first LP was a '71 GT Standard I bought used at a pawn shop in '84. I've owned many GT's and they will always have a special place in my heart. Roy and the gang at RS are doing the top refin. I'm getting the aged olive color with fading that so many 50's GT's have. The boys have had my R0 for a couple of weeks and I should be gettin' it back the end of March, begining of April. I'll be getting some photos from Roy showing some before, stripped and finished shots. No aging will be done other than slightly dulling the gloss to go with the VOS finish on the rest of it. To my knowledge it may be the only R0 Gold Top/dark back once it's done. This is how it looked before it was sent. ![]() This shows about what I'm wanting color wise. ![]() |

what's the turnaround time expected,Sean?...oops.didn't read.Personally I would go with some slight aging, which is what I am leaning towards on my 69 redo.

Re: My '07 R0 will soon be a Gold Top
About 8 weeks total give or take.
End of March or begining of April. They are just going to dull it a bit along with the fading. That's all I really want. I'll age the rest while playin'. ![]() ![]() I haven't posted here in a while so,I thought I would let MLP bro's have a chance to tell me I'm crazy. ![]() |

Re: My '07 R0 will soon be a Gold Top
I'm going to send them my '03 R7 sometime this year, hopefully; getting a set of psychebilly pickups for my R9 is a higher priority though.
I may have them redo the GT on the R7 as well--I'm probably going to go for a Dicky Betts type of look. It'm make a great match for the R9 they already did for me.BB |

Re: My '07 R0 will soon be a Gold Top
I've always been kinda fascinated as to why the Gold Tops seem to exhibit this sort of "roundness" to the body..like a dome shape ..almost circular shaped crown to it. I figured it may be the way the paint is colored or shaded. Then again, it may just be my dah men cha rearing its ugly head....

Check out the photo above of the first shot of gold. You can now see the top carve better due to the reflections on the gold. |

Re: My '07 R0 will soon be a Gold Top
I'm hoping to get my R7 to them for a "treatment."
It may be awhile, but I love what they did with my R9.Are you having them age it a little, or are you getting it shiny and new? BB

The color is going to be aged similar to the vintage gold top in my first post. Getting more of an olive green color. They are also going to have the lighter(non aged)gold color under the poker chip, rings etc that you would see on a vintage gold top that has ambered. The gloss will also be dulled down a bit too. I'm not having any finish checking of wear done. |

WOW
I just wouldn't have the testicular fortitude to do what you're doing. I would have taken the long road around and looked for a GT. But I can't wait to see it completed.

One issue though. There are no R0 GT's. To get that neck one must get an R0 and they are only available with a sun burst finish. Hence, the top refin. I'm fairly certain it will be the only R0 GT around. |
