Re: Hardware Plastic Comparision Thread

Hi Guys. Thought I'd post some pictures of the upgraded plastics on my R6 VOS compared to the stock historic parts.. Note: the flash does lie a bit. The parts are not as dark in person, but it gives a nice impression of the relation between the two..

Fatboy covers on top, stock ones installed. Stock switchtip, pokerchip and nut installed. On the right Fatboy aged switchtip, pokerchip and nut. Knobs are RS. I had an RS switchtip at first, but donated it to my vintage es-225 that was lacking one..

Everything installed..

Initally I was going to leave it with the plastic madness after that, but had to order the Vintage Clone pickguard and a jackplate aged by Fatboy. Historic on the left, VC/Fatboy on the right

Go for it! When I got my R6, I was initially set on an R4, but couldn't justify the upcharge for the R4. I guess I can't complain though, as I got a guitar that rings like a bell. It was a great guitar to begin with, and after a set of Lollars 50s wind, rs pots and luxe grey tiger caps, it is a great sounding guitar, to me at least..

Re: Hardware Plastic Comparision Thread

I just got my new Dimarzio mounting rings in the mail today. I thought they would be too white, but they're actually a little bit off white. They have the same measurements as the historic rings I have, so they're a perfect fit.

I sanded them a bit to give them the aged look, and I made them a bit more yellow with shoe polish. Looks pretty good in my opinion

What do you guys think? They're 5 bucks each... beats the hell out of those expensive replica parts (if you don't mind the lack off the correct mold marks and numbers at the back).

Here's a comparison between an original pinkish Gibson ring, a new off white Dimarzio ring and an aged Dimarzio ring (middle).

Here's some pics of the rings fitted to my 1994 LP classic (sorry no historic yet):

SWITCH TIP SIZE
I recently got a Vintage Clone Tip and was surprised how much smaller it is than the Historic one. Has any one got a 59 original they can measure for comparison. These are the sizes of my parts.(mm)
VINTAGE CLONE 7.48 Large Diam. HISTORIC 7.81
5.66 Small Diam 6.61
13.96 Length 14.58
I had the Vintage Clone on my replica at the Penrith Guitar show at Weekend and was surprised how many pointed it out as not looking right !!!!!

I immediately ordered a couple of the stewmacs. The color looks dead on. The font isn't that bad either!!

The STewmac LP pickguard sure does like it will fit too, and the color is way better than the pinkish historic one.

So do these fit the USA Standards and the 1993-1998 Historics, or do they fit the 1999 and up Historics, and Vintage?

Re: Hardware Plastic Comparision Thread

I don't know, I ordered a sheet of pickguard material so I can cut it out myself incase the pickguard is the wrong size. I'm also curious about the size of the precut guard.
