Historic Battle Scars - Lets See 'Em!

I've had my R8 a whole... week (?) now, and I'm already earning some battle scars. Its as if she WANTS to look like a vintage burst!

I have some small buckle rash started (and I wear an untucked shirt over my belt - Nitro is taking me some getting used to!), a couple of very minor surface scuffs on the back, and then I have this beauty on the side (the yellow looking spot in the middle):

I was opening a box for my son and dropped my (closed) pocket knife, which grazed the side of my R8 and put a nice dent in the side (hard to capture now that the sun is low and I've just got my inside lights...).

At band practice yesterday, I caught the corner of my headstock on my microphone (roughed up the corner some, hard to see in the pic, but its a little rounded now), and I have some rub marks between the neck and headstock wings from restringing my wound strings (scrrraaaape! There's the one good sized notch, and then two small ones to the right of it).

So, I've done my fair share of damage in a weeks time!

Lets see your Historic's battle scars! I know that Sybil has one or two, eh, Bobbo?

I've got some to show, but I don't know when I'll get to bringing them all back out for pics! My R8 has some buckle rash, and my Classic has dents and dings all over it, but most of my guitars are almost pristine.

I haven't given battle scars to my guitars this quickly before! Most of mine are in great shape, but they're mostly Poly as well. My son, when he was 2, tried playing one of my Elitists with an emory board finger nail file - that was nice! Most of my guitars have a mystery dent here and there - but I've never touched a headstock to anything before - that was a first!

Re: Historic Battle Scars - Lets See 'Em!

Is that a dent in your pickup cover??

My dimple is just a little large than yours on the top - I'll try and get a good picture of it in the light tomorrow and swap it out for that crappy picture that I took today!

I'm worried about my dogs (and kids) messing w/ my guitars when I set them down for a minute here and there...

I keep mine in their cases at all times and usually tucked between my amp and a desk so that there's really no chance of them falling over, and not laying down so nobody decides to stand on the case. Kids and animals are a bad combination around anything fragile and/or expensive.

My 3 kids are old enough now to know not to F with my stuff, but their friends might get curious. I've sacrificed an Ovation to a nephew who thought it was a golf club.

It's a pain in the ass to pack and unpack them everytime, but you get used to it fairly quickly.

Re: Historic Battle Scars - Lets See 'Em!

Mine stay in cases almost all the time. If I'm playing it, and run to get a drink or something, I lay it on the bed or couch - but I never set them on guitar stands or lean them on anything. I've also had the problem of kids walking on cases if they're laid flat on the ground...

Re: Historic Battle Scars - Lets See 'Em!

My R9 was first owned by Mick Ralphs. He isn't too careful with his LPs. Rash on the back, quite a few dings. That's fine with me though.

Dwagar and Stow - got any pix!? I've seen several pix of the Stowburst, and she sure has gotten a tone of love and battle wounds.

Re: Historic Battle Scars - Lets See 'Em!

She looks great! I've been sitting out on the back patio and playing my R8 while smoking a cigar lately - I'm sure that the fade will come on mine too, although I don't lay it out to fade. When I showed up to my Luthier's shop today and pulled her out of the case, and his first words were "I SEE A DING!!" (the one on the side) "The first of many" he said. And... he's right! He actually called while I was typing this, so I'm off to go pick her up from getting a little nut slot trim and neck adjustment.

This one showed up last night (don't know how!) right along the edge.

My camera really sucks. This is the best I can do!
