Les Paul '58 reissue

Hi, I'm new around here, I really liked the pictures which I've seen on this forum.
I own a R8 from 2005 - no flames but just great tone. I wanted to know if this guitar has bumblebee's and CTS pots.
greetings Joost

Yes, since 2003.
If you can unscrew the plate you'll see it by your eyes.

Re: Les Paul '58 reissue

But , they're Not Real Bumble Bee Caps.

Gibson made a Plastic Jacket that was molded over a New Cap.

Some one cut them apart and here's what was inside

It's a "Wesco" polipropilene cap, rated 400 volt, marked "223J",
described in these pages:

Polypropylene Capacitors

and this:

32PL Ratings and Dimensions

If you're happy with the sound, that's all that matters.

Since I have lots of the real ones , I choose to use the originals

I take them out and put in .010 caps.

I have a bunch sitting around, since I don't use them.

Re: Les Paul '58 reissue

I use the RS Paper and Oil caps. They work just as good as the original ones if not better. Old ones decay sometimes.

R8s have a fantastic tone. I attribute this to the larger neck profile. Nothing but tone bro!!!! Pics?

Re: Les Paul '58 reissue

Yes I agree, great tone lots of sustain. I bought this guitar because it's lighter than my other LP standard (= non custom version). Unfortunately I could't affort a R9, they don't sell a lot of those guitars here any way, and most of them don't look as good as the ones which I've seen on this forum.
So I bought the R8, it's Iced Tea, there's not a lot of visual grain - is a plain top, I'll try to upload some pics for you to see tomorrow. I started to read some magazines and now I'm here on the forum, trying to learn something about these guitars.
Thanks !! Joost

+1

I picked up some .010 old bees awhile ago, they are great. At least in the neck position.

Re: Les Paul '58 reissue

I just got these reproduction Bumblee caps made by Luxe.. paper in oil like a bee is supposed to be .. sorry didn't really mean to rhyme there ! anyway .. These sound really good .. they open up alot of nuances in your volume controls !

Re: Les Paul '58 reissue

Very nice guitar. I just bought one in bourbonburst. It's awsome. How do you like the 50s neck? It's pretty fat.

Re: Les Paul '58 reissue

Hi This is my new R8 . What do you think?.

Mine has a striped dark and light rosewood. The dark stripe looks almost ebony. Unusual. Wasn't sure at first but it is wood after all and can vary.

I wonder if it was chosen for grain. ?

Sounds very rich though. My studio is almost as good but the tone is deeper more articulate and sustains forever.

My '98 '58 historic. Super chunky neck. Not the most historically accurate, but one heck of a guitar.
