" SYBIL " Got a Bit of a Makeover !!!

I got my 2005 R8 Sybil back from Raritan Bay Guitar this afternoon after a few improvements !! I just got a set of real celluloid inlays from Dave Johnson over at Historic Makeovers and some real 1959 Les Paul ABR1 thumbwheels from Randy's vintage parts !! I have to thank Dave Johnson again for sourcing these great inlays ! They look outstanding and as a guy who is a bit obsessive about vintage accuracy ! These things are Dead on !!! Also have to give a shout to Randy who is a very personable guy to deal with and has some killer vintage parts !!! Here are some pictures of the inlays and some of my new double thumbwheel setup which I call the BobboMod but has been done by many famous players like Jimmy Page , Jeff Beck and others !

Looks great, BOBBO, but what is the exact purpose of double thumbwheels?

Thats awesome man!

Having fun photographing them yet??
It's so hard to make them look like they do in person.

Sometimes the posts that hold the ABR1 start to lean foward toward the pickups from the string's tension !!! Their only into the body about a half inch !!! By adding the second set of thumbwheels to the posts and tightening the lower set down flush against the body it helps stabilize the bridge posts and hopefully keeps them from bending !

Makes sense! My R8's bridge may be leaning a little forward, actually. I might have to BOBBOize it!

If I decide to do it, I'll print up some purple $100s, with a big, pink portrait of BOBBO in the middle! Yellow numbers, and letters! I'll send those to ya!

Nah.. I'll print them on huge, bedsheet sized, white t-shirts! You could tuck the bottom into your clown shoes, and look sort of like a demented bowling pin!

I just contacted Randy and bought 2 of the spin wheels for my R8. Thats a great idea, I never thought of those post bending forward over time. Oh, and by the way Bobbo, I mentioned your name, and he said they would be $25 extra

I'd suggest the Mapleflame mod too, stainless steel screws, longer than the originals, some guys drill a touch deeper too. I think the ones I used were 1 1/2", some guys use as long as 2" I think.

Though about the longer posts ... Flick has been trying to get me to do it for ages ! Maybe in the future ? I think that adding the bottom wheels may help transfer vibration into the body too ! Increases the area of the bridge touching the body !!! Maybe i'm reaching there ???

I put the bottom wheel all the way down on the body ! The top wheel doesn't touch it ! Is that how you do it Rev ?
