Free Lessons

I'm starting to develop a course for beginners up to intermediate players. The course will involve learning sight reading, tabs, some ear training, rhythmic training, scales, picking technique, chords, chord construction, lead playing and rhythm playing. I will be recording most of the lessons and will send them to you in mp3 format for you to practice to and for you to hear it, (not only see it on paper)--and if you require other formats instead of mp3 i can probably arrange that.

what i'm looking for is 2-4 students to try the course from beginning to end as I construct it. you must be willing to practice an hour a day or 7 hours a week minimum. you must be wiling to record the assignments i give you and send them to me. there is a free audio recording program you can use called audacity. and even a cheap radio shack microphone would be sufficient.

i will be evaluating your playing before you start the course, and again when the course ends. i will also want your input on how hard/easy it was to learn and what you liked best and hated the most, and what you think did you the most good and what did you the least good.

Interested parties can pm me or post in this thread.

Re: Free Lessons

are you just lookng for beginners, probably a daft question, but being mainly self taught (and only an intermediate at best at the moment) it would be good for me to see what I missed!!

well i can't promise that the whole course would be useful for you. but i have no objection to teaching you from where you're at. and i'm sure if you're self taught that you would get something out of it. so that would be fine as long as you don't mind plodding through the whole course.

Great idea, Nicole. Good on ya.

I recently gave a few lessons, and it was a great experience. You have to be patient though...that's the tough part.

i've taught before in two small town music schools, but i was too immature then. i've learned loads from that experience though so i'm making a more mature, more experienced, and well thought out effort.

Re: Free Lessons

i think i have enough intermediate students. i would still like to see two beginners though. so if you're a fairly raw beginner this might be a good opportunity for you.

I've got a degree in curriculum development and developing adult education classes, should you need any help or suggestions.

Can't wait to hear some of the results!

Re: Free Lessons

No worries. Instructional Design is a process, not too hard to master once you get the basics down.

What most designers use is the ADDIE model.

A - Analyze. Your students, the task, and the desired outcome. Writing good OBJECTIVES is the key.
D - Design. Computer instruction, written, self-paced or not, etc.
D - Develop. The grunt work...putting everything on paper, recording lessons, etc.
I - Implement. Put the training into effect. Use a test group (what you're doing here) (Smart girl!--)
E - Evaluate. Test your students; are the lessons meeting the objectives? If not, go back to the "A" and start the process again.

I can offer some reference material and a few websites if you're interested. Developing training for adults is a little different than for children. For adults, you have to "sell" the training. "What's in it for me?" is the question you have to answer straight away, or they won't WANT to learn--that's biggest difference between teaching adults and kids. A majority of kid's minds are dry sponges, just waiting to soak up information...not so with adults.

One good thing here--the dudes WANT to get better, so you're already ahead of the game.

Let me know how I can help! I only charge $50 an hour. JUST KIDDING!!!!

Nicole,
I just sent you an email. I am very interested in your course. I am a beginner who just got a guitar for valentine's day, so I have only been at it for 2 weeks or so. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Free Lessons

I don't know exactly how you would classify beginner, but I think I might be qualified

I played briefly as a teen (mostly so I could tell the chicks I did), stopped playing for about 16 years or so, then took a group beginners course with my stepson a couple years ago. About a year ago I bought an electric-acoustic to play around with, and just bought myself an Epi LP for Christmas. I'm pretty much entirely self-taught, and believe me it shows!!!! Of all the areas you have listed, the only one I am confident in my ability is reading tab.

I don't think I am able to PM due to the forum rules - a tad shy of 50 posts.

Any way around that?

I'll take you as a student. you sound close enough to a beginner to me. and i believe you can select email me instead of pm me. that's what one of the others did.
