Re: Dive bombs with a Les Paul...

Can you give an example of a song that has an LP 'dive bombing?'

You could always grab the body with the palm of your right hand and push the neck away from you with the left hand...and release just before the neck snaps off....

That is what I am talking about... I want to see a demonstration of it or a tutorial on how to do it without the neck snapping off...

Civil War, I know I'll get shot for writing about Slash, but he did it quite a bit, and you can see a good example in any live version of that tune...

I think most are hip to what you have to do to get the sound, it's just a matter of not wanting to press your luck.

Re: Dive bombs with a Les Paul...

Or you could find a digitech whammy pedal for cheap (i got mine for $80) and use the "dive bomb" option and, yeah dive bomb!

Re: Dive bombs with a Les Paul...

I've done it, a few times, but as I get older I get more and more concerned about the relationship between dive bombing pleasure and neck replacement costs...

Wanna have all that? Get yourself a LP Axess!

Sorry guys, but that little neck bending that Randy and others did/do isn't exactly a dive bomb, is it?

I bend the string over the nut... Only have about a whole step, but it still has some effect...

Bigsby doesn't allow dive bombs or pull ups, it is for simple vibrato.

Installing a Floyd on a LP is major surgery and if not done correctly you have just ruined the guitar.

OP- if you are looking for those type of tricks really the LP Axcess or one of the shredder guitars is what you should have.

I do that quite a bit, actually. Doesn't drop the pitch very far, unless you actually snap the neck.

Re: Dive bombs with a Les Paul...

Epiphone has made some Floyd Rose LPs. A true divebomb isn't going to happen without it, and cranking on your neck to that extent is a bad idea.

Otherwise, there are many decent and inexpensive Floyd models out there - Ibanez in particular.

This neck through RG (left) cost me $300 - mint.
