Best Tabs

I'm a big fan of reading tabs off the internet, as are many. If you have used a lot of tabs you would know that many online tabs are in-accurate. What are your guy's favorite tab websites? What websites generally have better tabs than others? I personally hate practicing a tab, only to find it's not correct and I'm back to square one.

Re: Best Tabs

I take internet TABs with a huge pinch of salt. As you say, most are inaccurate. After a while the bad TABs become easy to spot. I use Fresh Tabs : Guitar, Bass, Guitar pro and Power tabs most often but I wouldn't say they are accurate. I usually look for the most accurate looking TAB and then figure out how it should be played (or how I want to play it).
I would be interested if anyone has any sites they would recommend.

Re: Best Tabs

Does anyone know any "smaller" sites that tend to be accurate? Ultimate Guitar has millions of tabs, hundreds-thousands of tabs for each song. I'm looking for a smaller, less known website that has a couple good tabbers working there. I think it would be cool if MyLesPaul added a "Tabs" section of the forums.

Re: Best Tabs

ditto above, they're nearly all wrong! I just use em when I'm being lazy to get the key or a basic idea then work out the rest for myself.
I use 911Tabs - tabs search engine // 3,500,000 tabs. Guitar, bass, drums, guitar pro and power tabs! - you type in the artist or the song and it comes up with all the different tab sites that have it. Saves a lot of searching different sites and coming up with rubbish.

Re: Best Tabs

I have some books from my teen years and they are called " Off The Record Arangements" and even they are wrong. Use tabs for a basic guide to flesh out the song and figure out how to fill in the parts yourself (IMOP)

I agree with this and is better to transcribe by ear too, yet I know of a couple sites.

Guitar World seems to have a bit of legit tabs...
Free Guitar Tabs, Bass Tabs, Tablature | Guitar World Tabs

and

MxTabs is a good base to work off aswell...
Free and Legal Guitar Tabs, Bass Tabs, and Drum Tabs | Free, Legal Tablature at MXTabs.net

For people learning to play, tabs are great.

Re: Best Tabs

Tabs are great if you want to learn a song quickly, but if you want to learn to play guitar, figuring out stuff by ear is invaluable. You learn far more than just the notes. It forces you to think about positioning and things like that. You end up figuring out what works for you.

Re: Best Tabs

I agree it's best to learn songs by yourself, or mainly by yourself, unfortunately some songs are harder than others. Many times I am looking to learn a song before a certain date and learning a song by ear that quick for a beginner/intermediate player can be a challenge.

Re: Best Tabs

My favorite place is vanderbilly.com, although it isn't tabs, it is a group of people that through the use of a request cart/table/forum they will pass on their song knowledge in the form of free instructional videos. Managed to stumble across it through some youtube video, hope this helps out.

Re: Best Tabs

..as far as TABS and learning songs:

Find the TAB online

Find a fellow on YouTube who does the song well.....use your ears on top of that

and it all falls into place right away.

The TAB basically helps make clear what he or she are

doing with thier fingers.

Get past the mechanics of the tune and catch the feel of it...and it works out.

Example:Operation Mindcrime is my latest undertaking...its going very well using the above method

Tabs are a great way to get started, but I think if one is serious about music, they should look into learning standard notation. It offers more than tabs ever could. However, if you just wanna quickly learn a song, or figure out the most efficient fingering for a certain lick, tabs are great.
