How to read Tab

Just thought I would post this for those who cannot read or have never tried to read tablature. For some reason TAB immediately clicked with me when I first started reading it in guitar magazines.

I have a friend who has been playing guitar way longer than me. He knows quite a bit about music theory but struggles with TAB. So I thought I would put this out in hopes that someone could use it. Here are a few good links explaining the method to the madness.

Just kidding, it's really quite simple

Re: How to read Tab

Do you guys know any sites for Classic Rock songs on sheet music? I know its not the point of the thread, but I want to improve my sheet music reading skills.
Thanks! (300th post )

I have been studying theory, music, notes on a staff, etc, on my own in the library for a while. I am slowly learning the concept and I feel that once I do understand, it will validate a lot for me.

However, TAB, at first glance, registered immediately with me. It was like a code that I could relate to. I can see TAB transcribed for a song I do not know and be able to hear the notes in my head.

Kinda weird but that's the way I roll

That's the way musical notation should work. It should come alive in your head. Tab does not for me, but I'm glad it does for you.
