Riff Techniques?
Hi all, I realize I am mostly certainly a newb for saying this, but I need some tips on the riff technique everyone seems to be using. How do people play the guitar with both hands at the same time? Everytime i try to play it, i cant seem to focus on both hands at once. So its hard to move both hands at the same time (riffing). Thanks in advance.

Re: Riff Techniques?
There are no tricks. It's all about practice.
Start with easy riffs, and play them slow. For me this sometimes means that I start at less than half of the indicated BPM, but by building up speed, I get there faster than by endlessly trying at full speed. start by playing the riff without grace notes, hammer-ons or pull-offs. practice scales. For Chord progressions: play them as arpeggios first. This gives you a little more time to place your fingers.

Re: Riff Techniques?
Time, dedication and practice untill you dont think about moving your hands, they just do it.
Start off right at the very beginning, get a few lessons on the basics and just practice. |

Re: Riff Techniques?
Only other post I can see from OP was ragging on someone for his riffs, and then posting a question on how to improve his own riffing skills.
Maybe he was banned for being rude. |

I enjoy playing mainly 12-bar simple Blues. A Riff technique I have used for a long time is playing pentatonic boxes or bits and peices of several pentatonic boxes in both octaves, within the key the song is being played in. It allows me to be creative and create different tones and riffs. I created several illustrations, liked the one below in A-minor, for myself when learning the pentatonic boxes in different keys. ![]()
