Guitar lesson essentials. Please read and contribute.
Ok so here it is, i hate having to go around the net trying to find the "NEED TO KNOW" of guitar theory so I've started this to help not only myself but anyone else from beginner to advanced to find the essential music theory for practicing and learning how to play guitar.
this thread will encompass scales, chords, music pieces and other exercises. (Please present all music/music theory in tablature) A Stating point is some basic chords and scales. use theory books like "Guitar chords Progressive" "Guitar method Progressive books" and Hal Leonard "Incredible chord finder" Theory books help allot as you don't have to print anything off and they contain allot of information but normally cost a bit to create a library and most are in musical theory and not tablature. Please contribute to this thread and help create a Guitar Method Essentials Library. i will be adding to this thread based upon how much it help people.

Re: Guitar lesson essentials. Please read and contribute.
Hi,
Besides the last 2 notes being reversed, the entire tab for the A Major scale, is written one string "lower" than it should be. If you start on the "A" string, instead of the low "E" string, the scale pattern works. I haven't looked at the others yet. Take care, Ace

Re: Guitar lesson essentials. Please read and contribute.
Scales can be intimidating to some students and hard to apply to create real solos. I like to start with students playing chord tones. Chord tones always sound good over chords. For example if chord progression is one bar of Dminor and one bar of C:
Play root notes - eg. play the note D over the Dm chord, then C note over the C chord Play 3rds - play the note F (over Dm) then E (over C chord) Play 5ths - play the the note A (over Dm) then G (over C chord) Then mix and match - eg. play D over Dm, E over C Then we start to play more than one note per bar by approaching the notes eg. approach the note D with a lower note (C). Approach the note E with lower note (D) and start to expand from there. This usually results in very melodic and interesting solos. |
