Thanks for the invitation, Von Bek. This should be interesting. I haven't read any formal or semi-formal philosophy in decades. The writing style and some of the word usage in the excerpt in the other discussion throws me at first - I'll have to get readjusted. But if I'm "getting" it, one of the elements of the discussion about the "They" self relates directly to my "are you listening" thread in the Backstage.

I think the problem is is that we're so involved in "Everydayness" aspect of it all, that we may not in fact be listening and seeing as carefully as we believe we are.

Think of the assumptions and presumptions that are so readily made about others. I know where you are coming from or my favorite, I know what you are going through...

Again, the "Everydayness" that we are so absorbed in provides the very foundation for this very sort of behavior.

I've read the initial post and have begun a response, fortunately or unfortunately it has placed me into very analytical frame of thought... in other words not only am I applying the concept of They/Self/Time/Being along with all of it's sub-catagories but I am also clinically analyzing and measuring the responses... man I gotta stop smoking this good shit!!

Thanks for the invite! This group looks like it could have some interesting conversations. I'm honored to be invited to participate with all of you brainiacs....I have not studied any philosophy since my college days, but I do enjoy intelligent discussion. I'll try to add something to the group.

Hey guys.

I haven't had any formal Philosophy education, per se... I just think a lot. Most people who know me would say too much. I've just had a thirst for knowledge and enlightenment for as long as I can remember. Human behavior has perplexed me since my school days, when I'd sit on the bus trying to imagine what was going on in some of the other kids' heads. What was it that was driving them to do such rotten things to each other, and to me? Where did they get the attitude that ignorance was something to celebrate? Sociology, philosophy, and physical science... and really everything are just branches of the same tree... they have absolutely everything to do with each other.

If art is the expressions of the heart then philosophy is the interpretation of that art. I think of philosophy as an essential part of humanity that investigates, proposes and blurs the boundaries between what is, could be, and what shall never lurk among us.

I hope I can contribute something interesting. Peace.
