The Jazz Guitar Bible is very good. BTW does any one know how to walk a bass line when playing your guitar? I stumbled upon a video of someone doing that on youtube and it was cool. I am going to try and learn how to do that.

stumbled upon this group and wanted to say hi......my all time fav music is jazz but, I have not played as much as I should (just when I was starting to get some decent jazz chops down I got carpel tunnel) but, I still wish I could play it...

any one listen to the early Louis Armstong stuff?

also, I came up with an good idea..at one point when I went to practice my arps I would run through the different cadences in mind: V-I, I-IV, and others..I also inculded the ii-V-I....it seemed to be really paying good dividends...(but, my carpel kick in and I had to take another brake from playing)

I saw this on on youtube and I have been working on implemneting this style into my playing.

thanks.....getting the whole voice leading and walking bass thing down would be so cool....I can not do that but just to throw it out a great book is Moveable Chords by Don Latarski is just great....it is based on the caged system and is just fantastically presented IMHO....also I love the Chord Orbits book too....

today I was listening to an early mid Davis album...I can not remeber the name...it has "when the lights are low"....just great stuff...

I haven't read that book but I found this site http://johncomino.tripod.com/indx.htm which has a whole bunch of moveable chord shapes on it. I have printed about everyone on there I could find, and from to time if I stumble upon one I make sure I have Write down or print a page of a website where I found it. It's by Wolf Marshall, it's really good.

Nice video posts above - love that walking bass line in dcmey's "Moon" video post, and the guy is so relaxed about it, even carrying the melody too. Arggh, I'm envious of his chops.

For those wanting to play over jazz standards as did Django,Joe Pass, Tal Farlow,Herb Ellis etc etc get the NO NONSENSE JAZZ GUITAR DVD by JIMI BRUNO.He's a fantastic player (see him on youtube) and has never relied on any modes.He explains how to play fluid lines over chord progressions.
There's nothing like improvising over those old standards and playing through the wonderful chord progressions eg a simple one like Bb///G7///Cm7///F7///.
Trying to learn the appropriate modes for each individual chord and then thinking of something to play on the hoof is a nightmare.
