Ed played this guitar several times in the green room, and he thought it was a tremendous representation of Gary's. He has played Gary's several times as well, and from what he remembers, its almost dead on. Especially when he plugged it in the first time. One day when I was hanging out with Ed at his home, he let me play his original 1959 that was the subject of many articles because it was stolen, then turned up in Japan, and then given back to Ed over a dozen years later. That particular guitar has a mind of its own. Just about the BEST LP I had ever played.

I have several Les Pauls, and the Rossington one is my favorite. I also have the Rossington SG AND the original slide Gary used to record Freebird, which I got from Gary's former guitar tech.

And another with Ed King himself! Hey Mark, did Ed have anything to say about your guitar? Thanks for sharing these pics.

Hey all. I have owned number 205 for about 4 years now. But I get to do something that you probably don't - I actually played it in a Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute Band with Ed King, artimus pyle, J Billingsly and Leslie Hawkins. Right now, I use a JCM 800 50 watt combo with 2 JBL K120's, and an vintage 1960 Marshall 4x12 with greenbacks in it. I can honestly say that my tone is close to perfection with Gary's.

I will post some pics as soon as I figure this out.

Sorry for the crummy scan, but here's the other two left handed Rossingtons: GR181, and GR115.

Here's the original Berniece! Gary's 59! Note the location of the two main scars compared to where Murphy locates them.

One thing that's always amazed me is how inconsistant Murphy is with the location of the two scars. On the real Berniece, they are both on the same side of the seam. Murphy puts them on opposite sides, and the round one varies in location considerably! In one of my conversations with Tom, he told me that he didn't get to handle Berniece, he only saw pics of her. I guess that he worked from memory, and that caused the variations you see in each guitar.
