PLain top -> Flametop?

Is it possible to re-finsh the guitar from a plain studio top into a
lavishing flametop sunburst?

i dont have my hopes up high but im just askin'

Ive got a goth lp and was wonderin if i could make it into that beautiful
sunburst finish

no, the flame is the figure in the maple itself.

you could however have a good luthier cover it in a veneer (a very thin piece of real wood) and refinish. Pretty expensive I would think.

It would probably be cheaper and easier just to sell your LP and buy a flametop.

i used to think flame top meant they would take an actual flame to the wood and it would bring out that striping. and with quilt tops it was just a different pattern they did with the flame. now im wiser and know its just a different type of maple wood. there are a lot of beautiful woods out there. my fav, lacewood

a bit busy but in a deep red i bet the iridescences of the "lace" would really shine through
