Re: Les Paul punk rockers!

Played alot of show in alot of small venues. Ive pedaled cds and tapes. Ive never once worried about the $$$.. Now beer on the otherhand was a HUGE concern. I jist like to play and watch the kids tear it up to my songs. It makes me happy. Would i take money, like lotsa money? Hell yeah! The less i have to work for someone else the longer and happier im sure my life will be.

The one in the picture there is made by a company called sparrow guitars out of Vancouver, BC. But Pete has played a white Gibson Les Paul Custom at every show I have seen them play since 2003, and I'm pretty sure he has had that guitar since it was brand new, it's beat to hell now and looks awesome.

How about Cheetah Chrome from the Dead Boys? He originally used Melody Makers but He was promoting the BFG for awhile. Here's his BFG promo playing Sonic Reducer:

Funniest part about that is how stubborn he was about not playing anything else but his old Strat copy for years....probably some studio engineer or tech put a 50s Junior in his hands, plugged him in and he finally saw the light!

What gets me is he talks so much about how awesome the P90 tone is then all his recordings are over-engineered and ProTool'd to the point you can't tell his P90s from anything else. Some songs how great P90 tone but most have too much processing.

I remember JT photographed on the jacket of the second New York Dolls album with an LP Special. (Fellow Doll Syl Sylvain was playing a Custom.) I think he used that Special as a companion guitar.

Classic quote on JT, from a long-gone music paper: Originator and still practitioner of Buzzy Bee School of Guitar. (Which makes you wonder if that writer had ever heard Jeff Beck's "Over Under Sideways Down" riff a decade earlier, but never mind . . . Johnny Thunders' buzz, sound-wise, anyway, made Jeff Beck's resemble the song of the Baltimore oriole . . .)

He was a cool guy. I probably had 6 opportunities to see his gig but he didn't turn up for 4 of them! Good old Johnny.

Re: Les Paul punk rockers!

Lets see now ....
Vinnie Stigma (Agnostic Front nowdays employing an SG)

Mike Ness (SD prison bound onwards post SG years)

Porcell from JUDGE

Doug Holland (Kraut / Cro Mags)

Brian Baker (Dag Nasty/Minor Threat)

Pete Shelley (Buzzcocks)

AT the time I got into it all my favourite players were all rockin SG's (Al Barile from SSD , Mike Ness in SD had the SG mommys little monster era) Greg Hetson was employing an SG on those crucial early Bad Religion records maybe I'm out of touch but I don't associate him with a Les Paul.

Joan Jett mention just for the sake of mentioning & picturing Joan Jett the worlds sexiest grandma
