Slash serial numbers
I"ve seen the serial numbers on the Slash and the 9 digits Break down as follows. For example: take the serial number 004380332 The 1st and 5th number are the year of production, 2008. The 3 numbers after the 1st number represent the day in the year it was made, so the 043 part represents the 43rd day of the year which makes it Feb.12th which is a Tuesday. The last 4 numbers represent the actual number of production that the guitar falls into, so the last 4 numbers 0332 represent the 332nd guitar out of 1600 to be made. Normally there are 8 digits because the last 3 represent the order of production that the guitar falls into for that particular day. The Slash has 9 because it is a limited edition from 1-1600.

Re: Slash serial numbers
Yup. Call Gibson. "Special" numbers, not much else to do. They should be able to tell you when it was made, and who is was shipped to. At least, they did for my old school slash, SL250.

Re: Slash serial numbers
Mine is 005280417.
so that would be Feb 21st #417. I've been thinking about this since the previous discussion on the serial numbers... I'm wondering why yours on the 12th would be 332, and mine would be 417 on the 21st. And then on top of that the whole 1600 in stores by April 1. My point is I think its weird for there to be so many days between 85 guitars... I thought the plant knocked out a few hundred a day... but anyway I've found this article on the change from 8 to 9 digits, and according to the article its not specific to the slash model. ![]() What a serial number can and can’t tell about your Gibson « Guitar Player Gear Guide |

Re: Slash serial numbers
That is interesting. Then why has every '08 I've seen so far have 8 digits? No fakes either. They are in real stores like GC and L&M here in Canada. This requires further info.
