Did I just buy a Classic or Standard?

Hey guys. I just took a chance on a LP off ebay and I'm not sure if its a Classic or Standard. The seller looks to be a pawn shop or similiar type dealer and I'm not real confident that they know there stuff. I didnt think the classics had covered pickups? Please take a look and let me know what you think. Either way I'm pretty stoked to try it out. Thanks.

Re: Did I just buy a Classic or Standard?

Looks like a Standard, Classics usually have yellowed crown inlays. Either way you got a good deal! Also says Les Paul model on headstock instead of classic.

Re: Did I just buy a Classic or Standard?

A Classic should have a inked on serial number and depending on the year it would either have Classic or Model on the headstock and thin or wide binding in the cutaway.
Classics did however come in black.

Re: Did I just buy a Classic or Standard?

If it is a classic it will as has been pointed out have a serial no. that is inked on. It is a great price either way. Congrats!!

Re: Did I just buy a Classic or Standard?

Did Standards come with 496R/500T pickups too, and a slim taper neck? I'm gonna say Classic. Nice guitar either way.

Re: Did I just buy a Classic or Standard?

Thanks everyone! Seems like Standard is the consensus by most so far. Now I wonder if it has a 50's or 60's style neck? I guess I need to find some back covers too!

Re: Did I just buy a Classic or Standard?

The description said Slim 60's taper neck. That's why I said Classic.

Cool guitar, great price.

I'd probly get those ceramic magnets out, and some nice Alnico IIs in.

Re: Did I just buy a Classic or Standard?

It looks like the seller cut and pasted the wrong description all together. If its a Standard I guess the pickups could be ceramics or Alnico Burstbuckers depending on the year. I guess I'll find out!

Re: Did I just buy a Classic or Standard?

It seems to be a Classic by the description and a Standard by the photographs - great price either way. I assume the pictures are correct therefore a standard. Is it stolen, or a neck/headstock crack? - price seems way low.

Re: Did I just buy a Classic or Standard?

HEY NOW! MAN THATS SOME DEAL YOU GOT THERE,it looks to me to be a STANDARD,I have a CLASSIC,and it says"CLASSIC" on the headstock, however I'm no expert. If you post your serial number, there should be someone here who can determine what model you have! good luck.

Re: Did I just buy a Classic or Standard?

Did they ever put ceramic pickups in Standards? Not to my knowledge. Looks like a late(ish) one so probably has Burstbucker pros in it. Before that I thought they had 490s, pretty sure that's what my old Standard came with.

Great score, BTW, always nice to see someone get a deal!

Re: Did I just buy a Classic or Standard?

I'm hoping for the BB Pros! I played an early 90's with the 490s and wasn't a big fan. For that price I guess I can experiment with pickups a bit!

Re: Did I just buy a Classic or Standard?

congrats on your buy... I see from the pics it still has those stock vampire ceramic tone sucking caps in it lol... Your first mod when you get it should be to swap those out for some good Vit Q's or Orange Drops! Enjoy your new baby!

I have been eye-balling that for a couple days.
I sent the seller an e-mail questioning if it was actually a Standard.
He never responded. I think he pulled the description of GC website.
But back to the axe. NICE SCORE! for a nice price

Re: Did I just buy a Classic or Standard?

Looks identical to the Ebony Standard I'm looking at right now.

I think maybe the seller was confused. Maybe the guy he got it from said Classic, but that is a Standard.
