String over the tail piece..Question?
I've seen this a few times...
What is the advantage? What difference does it bring? Does it leave scratches?

Re: String over the tail piece..Question?
Yes, it leaves scratches...no real advantage to my experience. A bit less down-force on the bridge than the 'normal' way of stringing. 'E' strings may pop out of saddles easier if you strike the strings hard.

Re: String over the tail piece..Question?
I tried it on my SG, no real difference that I can tell but some people like it. I think Zakk Wylde strings his LP custom that way.

Re: String over the tail piece..Question?
I tried top wrapping on my R9, and like it. It allows me to bottom out the tail piece against the body of the guitar, which some say will increase sustain.
I've found that it makes the strings feel a little more "slinky;" bending strings seems a little easier. I'm not a heavy-handed player, but even the most aggressive strumming has never popped the strings out of the nut--at least by my experience. My R7 has a great setup without tail wrapping, so I plan on leaving it as is, at least for now. ![]() BB

Re: String over the tail piece..Question?
Thanks--I have the same pic as an avatar on another amp forum, and I got some pretty good ribbing; all in good fun.
![]() In my gallery there's a bigger pic...I look pretty silly, with a Nigel Tufnel sneer. ![]() BB
