Best Les Paul "tone" in a record?
What do you think is the best Les Paul tone in a record?
I start with "The Best Of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac" (59 raw power!) |

Re: Best Les Paul "tone" in a record?
The Lead guitar tone on Reo Speedwagons album High Infidelity... the lead guitar player Gary Richrath had a great tone with his Les Paul.

Gary Richrath always had great tone, and I also liked Ace Frehley's classic tone on the KISS: ALIVE album.
Also, pretty much anything with Greenie on it. ![]() BB

I know that no one will agree with me, but this is the sound I currently strive for. Or, something similar, at least.

Randy Rhoads -- Crazy Train. It might not be the "best" tone, but it's my favorite. Great player, distinctive tone.

Re: Best Les Paul "tone" in a record?
I saw a recent concert they did on Palladia, and he still has a killer tone with a Les Paul. Howard Leese was no slouch either.

Re: Best Les Paul "tone" in a record?
Ace Frehley's Kiss Solo Album, he used a 59 Les Paul on most of that record, backed with a Stratocaster.
The opening song "Rip It Out" has a great LP sound. It's the guitar he "accidentally" sold instead of pawned on a trip to Atlantic City in the 80's.
