Hate
I find it funny (and sometimes amusing) at all the hate people have for Les Pauls.
Chambering Swiss cheese Signature guitars Murphy aging "snot green" inlays Price Norlins the list can go on and on... I'm guilty of this, too, as I hated swiss cheese holes for a while but I'm good now. Anybody else see the irony here? We all love Gibson Les Pauls but it seems we all also hate Gibson Les Pauls.

Re: Hate
I don't hate any of them.
It's a beautiful design, and they are all a joy to play. ![]() BB

Re: Hate
I'll gladly accept any LP's that are hated.
Consider it a public service.

Re: Hate
it is amusing. I have just always read bad things on norlins, and I guess believed it, until I tried out a 78 silverburst les paul custom and think it is a great guitar. Opened my eyes...

Re: Hate
I think it's easy to equate hate with passion. People are often critical of things when they perceive changes as ruining their ideal features in a product.

Re: Hate
Hate is a strong word.
I prefer swiss cheese holes to chambering based on my experience of playing both, but I wouldn't say that I hate chambered guitars. Maybe we just get carried away with hyperbole because that is the nature of online forums. |

Re: Hate
Guess its because of Sales and Marketing issues. Every year they change shit up, new models, new finish, new wieght relieving, NEW PRICES YUK.....Reminds me of the Auto Industry.......
So in my humble opinion if they just left it the same from 59 on, Sales would drag.......so they keep changing shit for sales sake and not all change is for the better.... So if you want a Lester built like a 59 you have to shell out more much more cashola.....to me its BS......leave the friggin thing alone, Mr. Les Paul designed it one way, Gibson changed it another way for the sake of profits..... Wait till they start making all standards in China the shit will really roll then..

Its not the Les Pauls we hate, its Gibson and their Sales and Marketing strategies.

Re: Hate
Those features don't bother me, there are models for everyone. What I can say is after all of these years, why is there no model with a shaved heel?? That is what I hate. Although that is a strong word, how about I dislike the advancement in that area.

Re: Hate
I don't think hate is the right word but people certainly dislike some aspects of Les Pauls. They don't hate or dislike Les Pauls as a whole.

Re: Hate
People online often don't express things very well. Something reasonable, like preferring one neck to another, comes out a bit like "I hate the new Standard necks". Then people get a bit defensive. Then someone makes a joke about them being a bit of dinosaur as they like the 50s neck, then someone is calling someone else a "tard" or something for calling them a dinosaur.

![]() There is lots of LP racism to go around here. The way I see it, many people think that if it is not a 58, 59, or 60 original, then there is something substandard about your LP. I don't subscribe to this. In the end of the day, if it sounds great, looks great and has an LP character to it, then thats what matters. P |

Re: Hate
I have to agree with that. Gibson spark the trivial matters that divide the LP community, not the guitar. The guitar and the man that made the guitar are legends.

Re: Hate
I agree. I think this is one of the few markets that would bail if that happened. It wouldn't be like Epiphone was, it would be "hey, who was that boutique builder?"
