Re: Les Paul TAK burst wow @ look @
My understanding is nothing Gibson USA is completely solid; so, I would say it's probably a Standard with an ABR-1. There's no link to the auction.
I don't like that guitar one bit.

FUGLY. Call me old fashioned.... but where is the sweet, accenting white binding? The inlays just look wrong. I think whenever a les paul is deviated from the vintage looks, it just looks wrong.....

It's from a well-known legit seller - this guitar is rare.

Re: Les Paul TAK burst wow @ look @
Have to change my post after looking at the auction. I know the custom shop built Tak signatures, including the ugly yellow topped one and this one, but perhaps the main factory handled them too. I know the custom shop ones were solid, but can't vouch for this one. I never did like the black binding with the rosewood fingerboard.

Re: Les Paul TAK burst wow @ look @
I think it's quite attractive.
Only thing wrong with it is that some Japanese guy wrote his name on it.

The black binding looks sort of cheap, and abalone inlays don't look good on LPs...even one-offs/sig models! |

I like it. The top is nice, and the black binding looks sharp.

Re: Les Paul TAK burst wow @ look @
Dunno about the Gibson version, but I've got the Elitist. I'd assume the only differences (aside from where they're built) are the finish.
The Elitist comes with a similar top, the black binding, abalone inlays, burstbuckers (2&3), an ABR-1 bridge, and probably some other features I'm missing. It's hands-down the most solid guitar I own in terms of how it feels in hand--the neck is interesting, it's thick but not extremely fat and it seems to flatten out a bit at the back. Not sure what mine weights, probably 9.5-10lbs, but it's definately got some heft without breaking your shoulder and gets out a nice woody tone that can sing or snarl. I'd love to get the chance to compare the Elitist to the Gibson, aside from having a nitro finish the guitar couldn't feel much better. And as for the name written on it--the Elitist's don't (at least the 07', or maybe it's the US-bound Elitists don't--I've seen it on some but I think they were for the Japanese market). As for the looks; it grows on you. It can be real loud in full light, but over time you get used to it.

Judging by the case, it's made by Gibson USA. SO, it'll be like the Standards, weight relieved, short tenon and all. The Epiphone Elitist version of this guitar is actually closer to Historics (solid body, long tenon) than this one. |
