Re: USA's Slash Signature Les Paul Standard pics

Demon46,

I completely agree. I realize it's just a piece of paper and nothing to do with the quality of the guitar, but when I spend that kinda jack I want EVERYTHING that is coming to me.

In fact I am making one more call to the salesman at Sam Ash here and if I get the same answer they will see me this week with the guitar and then it will be their problem not mine. I like the guitar but I WILL NOT be given the run around on a purchase like this. I'm 110% sure I can find another LP I like as much or more.

I'm about to declare that Gibson will never get another dollar from me directly on a new purchase. If I don't get satisfaction with this I will NEVER buy a new LP EVER.

I did not get a booklet or even a warranty card with mine, which I thought was kinda strange since the '07 LP Standard I bought last October came with the warranty card and 30-page Owner's Manual (which is actually pretty cool as it has a bunch of info on Gibson's history and innovations, etc.). When I emailed Gibson support to ask about the COA, I also asked about the Manual and Warranty card. They didn't necessarily confirm that the guitar should have come with them, they did say they'd gladly send them both to me if I sent them my address (which I did).

I didn't see any of the USA Slash LP Ebay auctions showing the Owner's Manual, so it may not actually be included. And the Warranty Card may not be a big deal (I registered on Gibson.com already anyways), but still, like the COA - it's something that should come with the guitar, so I wanted it anyways.

So I'd recommend either emailing Gibson support or give them a call - I'm sure they'd send you the Owner's Manual and Warranty card like they did for me. And like I said, the OM is actually pretty neat, so it's worth asking for IMO.

...now if I could just get the whole COA mess taken care of...

I didn't have a chance to call Guitar Center back today to ask about the COA again (though they didn't call me with an update either, which is dissappointing )

I'm actually not frustrated with Gibson so much as I am with Guitar Center. Gibson didn't have the COAs ready when the guitars shipped, but they seemed to make it right and get them sent to dealers (well, MOST dealers, anyways). If the GC where I bought mine from legitimately didn't recieve the COAs, then that's fine, too - but it's something that should be easy enough to resolve with a simple phone call to their Gibson distributor. Again, I don't mind the fact that it's taking longer than most to get the COA - as long as I get it, I'm cool with that.

But you have a good point - GC does have a 30-day return policy. I wonder how they'd feel about losing the sale of a $2400 guitar over what's probably a $0.50 piece of paper. Of course, the guitar is still a limited editition and they'd still probably sell it to someone easily enough, but that's not the point. You'd think they'd be more concerned about losing the customer who purchased the $2400 guitar and likely would have continued to spend money at their store over time.

Re: USA's Slash Signature Les Paul Standard pics

Demon...

Did you buy this at the Seattle store?

Thats where I bought mine. I bought the first of the 4 that they had. When they put the guitars on the floor things like the warranty card and the COA always end up "missing". Not making an excuse its just the way things are.

The one I bought was pulled from stock and removed from the box...so I have the gibson box and everything. I made sure before I left the store that I had everything.

Who were you working with. Mike Ortiz helped me out and followed me through to the end of the sale. Yes they work on commission, so returning a 2400 guitar is a big deal to the sale person.

I would keep trying to get the COA, but as you can see from the picture its not that big of a deal. I'm sure either through a gibson rep or someone at GC you'll get one.

Obviously the guitar is supposed to have one.

Flat out the floor model did not have it with it when I was trying it out. So something happened to it.

Is it worth returning without it...your call...the guitar is awesome.

When I purchased my classic last year. I got the guitar and a case...no warranty card / manual or any of that.

GC is always hit or miss...usually more miss than hit. Its the way things are going. So are most stores.

Anyway...good luck.

- Yeah, I probably should have checked before I left the store, too. I spent a few minutes playing it and looking it over to make sure it wasn't flawed anywhere, but I didn't think to check on the OM or warranty card (and I didn't even know about the COA until saw pics of them on the net later that night). Once I was sure the guitar was perfect, I seem to remember being pretty anxious to get out of there and get home to keep playing it. I actually did get the Gibson box that it shipped in. When I bought it, they only had two left - one in the glass display case and the one I bought, which was apparently still in the box when I called and asked them to hold it for me...

- Yep, I'm going to keep trying. I called again tonight and the person I worked with (Brandon), wasn't working, so I asked them if they'd ever received the COAs from Gibson - The guy checked with someone and said that they hadn't, but thought that Gibson was supposed to ship them to the owners after they registered (?). I told him that wasn't what Gibson customer support had told me, but whatever. He told me that Brandon would be working again on Friday, so I'll give him a call back then (and ask him to check with Gibson for me in case he'd forgotten).

- So did the one that you bought actually have the COA with it when you bought it or did Mike Ortiz (from the Seattle GC), get it to you later? And if the COA was with it, I'm curious as to what day you bought it?...

- If I don't get any more traction from Brandon on the COA, I might threaten to return it, but it'll only be a bluff; I agree - the guitar is awesome, I love it and there's not a chance in HELL I'm returning it!!

Worst-case-scenario, I'm pretty confident Gibson will hook me up if I explain the situation. They've been very responsive and helpful so far.

I'm still curious to know if yours had the COA when you bought it and, if so, when you bought it. I may just ask Brandon to call Mike Ortiz at the Seattle store to confirm that these models should, in fact, include COAs (which Gibson would confirm for him as well, I'm sure, but maybe he'd feel more comfortable talking to a rep from another GC to confirm before calling Gibson. Because, you know, I could just be making this whole thing up about the COA and calling him to ask about it repeatedly just for the sake of annoying him... )

Thanks for the info, man - I really appreciate the help!

Re: USA's Slash Signature Les Paul Standard pics

Doug.

So I did buy the guitar on April 1.

I left the store that day with the COA. It was not in the box, it had to be "located".

But I would totally drop Mike's name in the conversation. Tell this Brandon guy exactly what went down at the Seattle store.

It sounds like...

1. Brandon is an idiot. or
2. GC Kirkland is poorly run, and they didn't properly explain to the sales staff about the COA's. or
3. GC employee('s) may have walked off with the COA. or
4. GC will figure where they went wrong, and all will be made right.

I would expect one way or the other that you'll get it. Even if it is from gibson directly.

And oh yes this guitar flippin' owns.

Re: USA's Slash Signature Les Paul Standard pics

Hey everyone. I'm excited to be a part if this forum. It's this thread that made me join. I will be getting mine on Tuesday!! I head to search long and hard for it. However I refused to take the floor units from the 3 local guitar centers here. Sure they had them in stock the sales people would tell me but chuckled when I ask if any new in box yet. They replied "No these are a limited run, nobody is going to have them new in box."
Well I have two things to that. 1. Yes it is a limited run so why the hell is it a strange request to think you would want to preserve the guitar in the best possible shape for the new owner. Anyways. The second is that even today, over a month later. They still think you get the COA after you register your s/n with Gibson. Lost I tell you that's what they are there.

My point for this post is I have noticed among all these great looking picture posts. There are two case types showing here. Did anyone else pick up on this? Look at the handles between them. What's up with that. The print, finish are all the same but the handles differ. If you didn't confirm that you bought them from a Guitar Center I would have though "CHINA FAKE" somewhere here. Does anyone know why this is? Is it a concern? Thanks

Also can anyone verify. I have read conflicting stories that the back of the headstock read "Made in the USA" while others state theirs read "Made in the USA then just below that 2008" Can anyone confirm this?

Re: USA's Slash Signature Les Paul Standard pics

I have #502. It does say "made in USA 2008" under the serial #.
I saw the black COA card on ebay after I got mine so I call G/C, they know nothing so I call Gibson, they tell me that G/C has them and they were shipped separate. I go over there and my salesman goes in the office and finally finds it. He said I was the first to ask, so a bunch of people got the shaft.
I am in love with mine.

With his "brother" (I'm such a freakin dork)

It seems with these Gibson Slash Standard, there are alot of inconsistencies with the quality, design, case and paperwork. Shame really, I love the guitar but have this feeling that still you pay alot of money and dont get back 100% service.

Yeah, fellows, I also bought a Gibson Slash Standard from GC and it did not include the COA either.
I was told that the COA's were shipped to the "corporate offices" of GC. My GC retailer states that they will send me one as soon as they come in. What a runaround!!!
I will call GC every week about this, very frustrating. Beautiful guitar tho.

Re: USA's Slash Signature Les Paul Standard pics

Let me give a quick review: The Gibson Slash USA Standard is the nicest LP I have seen as far as fit and finish at any of my local retailers.
The locking type bridge and tail piece's are especially sweet.
I haven't seen one Slash with a forward bent bridge or obscenely high set bridge or tail piece typically found on many new LP's. The bridge/stopbar bushings are set in properly and fit the body perfect. Whether you like "Slash" or not, this is a super fine LP for the cost.

--The COA issue is the only kicker.

If my "sales guy" still worked there, I'd try to get some extras for you guys that didn't get one. My dealer didn't have the VOS, which surprised me. I'm in Nashville for crying out loud. Probably a good thing, had I played it, I probably would have bought it. Then I would not be able to buy any new guitars for a long time.

I wonder how much they're selling the VOS one in states? It's around $4,400 +tax here in Canada.
