Re: velvet revolver down to 4 ........

I always liked STP better than VR. STP's songs are much more melodic and moody. I think VR really lacked the songwriting skills to be a "super" group, although I do like a few of their songs.

Erm... he's left to reform STP as far as I'm aware, rather than rock n roll burnout.

he is a great frontman. . . . but no front man is bigger than any band. VR will get another frontman in no time and will be as f**kin rockin as ever

Re: velvet revolver down to 4 ........

If I were going to read into things it sounds like Scott could not kick the drugs. Now, this is just what I am getting from the blog...

I really liked the first VR album but man I have not been able to warm up to the second one at all...

Maybe a new singer will add some spark to the band and take them to the "super group" level?

Re: velvet revolver down to 4 ........

Velvet Revolver sounds great on paper, but I don't think it panned out all that great.

And as for the drugs, STP made great records when Scott was all messed up. He gets clean, they put out the last album, it sucks and then the band breaks up.

Re: velvet revolver down to 4 ........

I never really like VR, don't get me wrong they had a few good songs. But nothing that ever came near Guns. If you look at who wrote the music for Guns, Izzy had alot to do with it. Mabey this is the right time for a Guns reunion?
Please Axl can't we all just get along.

Let me know who to talk to about getting an audition. I can fly down there same day.

I love STP, and VR was the last great rock band for me, but I'm pretty confident I can do his job, and not look like a drugged out creep while doing it.

Re: velvet revolver down to 4 ........

I saw them in February and Weiland ruined the show. His singing was horrible and like Slash's blog post says he was erratic as all shit on stage. Thank goodness. I hope they get somebody to replace that guy.

Re: velvet revolver down to 4 ........

I think that this is a good thing for VR. Scott Weiland is a great frontman, and i liked VR, but something was missing there. On the flipside, I know that there are a lot of comparisons to GnR, but their best album was 21 years ago and the closest thing to the original lineup hasn't played together in about 13 years or so. Even Guns and Roses doesn't sound like Guns and Roses anymore.
After reading Slash's book, I am pretty certain we are a long way from seeing a reunion. It would be cool though. I am not sure of my point in this post, so if it doesn't make any sense, i am sorry, just tell me to shut up!

VR looked good on paper, the first album had some good tunes, but I don't know they never quite hit on what everyone figured they would. I do enjoy STP and GNR as well, revolver just didn't do much for me.

I think all those boys STILL have their demons, not necessarily just Weiland.

Re: velvet revolver down to 4 ........

Poor Slash can't catch a break. This is the 2nd psycho he's had to put up with (I liked the 1st psycho much better). What's Sammy Hagar doing these days??

I see a Reality TV show in the future.....put Weiland, Axl Rose, and Eddie VH in a small room and crank ABBA continuously. Then call it Saw XII.

Re: velvet revolver down to 4 ........

I like Weiland, he's a complete scatter brain, constantly in trouble, etc.
(which seems to be a common trait for "some" creative individuals)
Did hear the other day STP was getting back together, trying to get something going for this summer.

I dont think V.R. really ever caught-on to the mainstream crowd, which is what I think they were going for. IMO - Nor do I think Weiland was the appropriate singer for that group of artists in the first place. IMO - He lasted alot longer than I ever thought he would.

VR had some good tunes and on some nights pulled of great performances. In the end Scott really belongs with STP. It's too bad he couldn't bow out gracefully rather than get all dramatic at the Glasgow show. Hopefully VR can find a singer that is a better fit and less erratic.

Re: velvet revolver down to 4 ........

I have seen VR - was pumped when they played a couple GNR songs, but VR not as good as STP or GNR.
People said years ago that David Gilmore and Roger Waters would never play again.... They did a couple of years ago - I think Live Aid or something like that.
GNR reunion!!!!! Never saw them - always wanted to - or Chris Cornell would do well...He is badass
Going to see STP in May in Columbus. That should be cool!

Re: velvet revolver down to 4 ........

The last time I saw Chris his voice wasn't in great shape.

I think they should avoid all the 'known' singers out there and find somebody new, the way Journey did with Arnel Pineda. Sure he sounds like Steve Perry, but who else could sing Journey's material?

I could only wish I was half the guitar player Slash is... Maybe if I got the job, I could get some pointers.

And of course free merch for all my friends on MLP.

Yeah, I'm pretty certain the odds of me even finding out where to audition are slim. I'll talk to my friends at Sony/BMG, but odds are, not gonna happen.

Re: velvet revolver down to 4 ........

This is upsetting but not surprising.

But in all seriousness they probably felt that he was holding them back artistically and as a unit, so what they do. Its all of the sudden too, kind of weird. Hopefully they can get another front man and move on. It's kind of funny when they were forming Izzy wanted to play rhythm guitar and split vocals with duff. Maybe that would have worked out better.

No, I heard that STP is reuniting as well, a long time ago. Maybe the rest of the band just wanted to get a jump on the media and make it look like they kicked Scott out.

I have a CD, but I"m not a big VR fan. Too bad VR can't find a stable singer. First it was Mr. PMS Axel Rose, now a coke head...what's next?

I hope it's not Chris Cornell. I personally don't like his singing. He took the Rage out of Rage Against the Machine.

Re: velvet revolver down to 4 ........

kinda feel glad i saw them last month then.. it was honestly a great show..! but i recently read of a gig they did in Glasgow, UK that was aweful..! to the piont where scott walked on during half a song.. after leaving duff to start the vocal..

it is a shame, but it will be interesting to see who takes over..? it was very nearly the singer from 'buckcherry' before scott..

If Axl ever reunites with the original GNR line-up, it will be AFTER Chinese Democracy is released (so basically, never).

I'm kinda bummed on this though. VR would have been my only chance to see Slash and Duff. Never seen those guys...

Best advice I've seen yet! Looking back on it, I didn't buy VR's Contraband until it was out for about a year and a half, because I never thought Weiland would fit the band. (and still don't).

If you somehow hookup with an audition, Loki....we'll be pulling for ya, Bro

Not sure if this is the right thread for this but I thought it was funny:

I just read that Dr. Pepper issued a statement saying "if Chinesse Democracy gets released this year, we will give EVERYONE in the US a can of Dr. Pepper."

That's F'n funny
