good days/bad days
..do any of you get good days and bad days when jamming..?
theres been times when i set up to practice and no matter what i do or change, everything just sounds crap.. guitar.. amp.. ME..! haha but then theres days (like today) when i plug in, and everythings amazing.. the guitar practically plays itself..! i didnt want to put my junior down today..! settings and set up where exactly how i left them the last time i practised, but tonight.. pure magic lol..! i guess its just a frame of mind thing really..? anyone else have days like these..?

Re: good days/bad days
Are you kidding me.! There are times when I just want to take the guitar and do a Pete Townshend on it. Times I feel the AMP has gone haywire. Times when I just want to quit and become a civilian. But then the next time I play, I find it's all good. Life can be like that.

Re: good days/bad days
I get this too. I think with me if I feel a little less energetic then it seems to translate into my playing. But I have had it where I kept going and I'd seemingly warm up and then I sounded good.

Re: good days/bad days
when you get an off day, set the verb to about 4 seconds and a 50% mix, and couple that with a full second of delay at a 75% mix. that ought to fix everything.

Or, and this always works for me. Get a tall glass, soak it in water and place in the freezer box. Get a bottle of rum, I like 151 and some coke (soda). Take the tall glass out of freezer, fill it halfway with ice. Pour a shot of 151 rum in there and then pour some coke in there. Raise glass to lips and sip it down. Repeat as necessary.

Re: good days/bad days
Lots of practice seems to make bad playing days go away for me. But when I'm really in a funk, I'll get drunk listening to some of my favorite tunes, then wake up hung over and play. I seem to always be able to get in a wicked groove when I'm hung over.

Re: good days/bad days
I think "bad days" come from lack of focus. You have to get in the right "frame of mind" to play your best. Sort of like how you should do some stretching before a physical workout. Lots of different methods to get in the groove (some are not so healthy as others). One thing for sure...Even the worst day jamming beats the best day working, especially with a Les Paul in your hands...

Re: good days/bad days
Last month a friend/coworker of mine snuck his acoustic into work and was playing some stuff for us when he broke a B string. He didn't have a replacement, and you could tell it was driving him NUTS, but he kept playing. He kept apologizing and hemming and hawing, but everyone was enjoying it about the same. Kind of even enjoying watching him work around it.
He went home thinking: "Man, I wish I could have showed those guys what I could REALLY do!" And everyone else went home thinking: "Man, thank god someone broke up the monotony of the workday with some great tunes" When you compare your best night to your worst night, yeah, maybe you're 10% better or worse. But don't let it discourage you, because when you're comparing music to NO music, those are biblical proportions of disparity: Let there be music!

Re: good days/bad days
When I was in my 20's, I never seemed to have a "bad" day - there were times when I seemed to hit a ceiling in my playing and would have to work hard to break through, but now that I am approaching 40 (sigh) I find that I have good days and bad days. I chalk it up to stiff joints or maybe the fact that work keeps me from playing as much as I would like. Either way, it beats a poke in the eye!
