Player LPs

Lets see some pics of road weary, beat up, scratched, dinged, dirty, tarnished, roughed up, but truly loved LPs. i am lousy at posting pics, but i will try. this is Betty, my trusty 89 LP custom Plus.

Re: Player LPs

i love this guitar. played gigs from New York, to London, France, Portugal, and many other places with her, and she has never let me down. she is a little rough around the edges, but she has it where it counts!

Re: Player LPs

cheers, thanks b squared. i picked it up about 8 or 9 years ago used from carmine st. guitars in new nyc. i used to live next door. i went in for strings one day and came home with her. got her fo 1200 bucks. god bless american express. she was missing a string and was covered with so much muck and dust, that i could barely see the flame. i took her home and cleaned her up, and she has been my number one ever since. since i will most likely never have enough money for a historic lp, this is as close as i will ever get to the perfect guitar for me.

Re: Player LPs

I can't remember seeing a 3-piece top with so much flame.

She's a special girl.

Re: Player LPs

i was pretty surprised to see that much flame on a 3 pc top as well. over here in ireland i get a lot of comments on it, since there are not a lot of sunburst cusoms floating around. i keep seing white and black ones all over the place, and a ton of wine reds as well. any sunburst customs that appear, usually are really clownbursty looking. as you can see, i am not at all worried about keeping it a pristine museum quality example. she gets played every day, for at least an hour, and for me it about the tone more than the value. I understand and appreciate all of the folks that keep their lps in showroom condition, but that just ain't me. i like em a little rough.

Re: Player LPs

I had my R9 relic'd, as I wanted the same thing, but unfortunately don't get to gig like you. (Unfortunately)

My girl hasn't put in the miles like yours, but here she is:

Re: Player LPs

your guitar kicks ass! that is beautiful. i would sell my soul for an R9. as for the gigging, i quit my band 8 months ago to spend more time with the wife. Now we have a baby arriving in about 4 weeks, I have become mr. domestic and the only gigging i do is in the spare bedroom of the house. Life is good at the moment and I am much happier off of the road. I am ready to be a dad.

Re: Player LPs

Here is a 77 LPC. It was already worn in when I got it about 6 years ago, but I've put some miles on it since.

Re: Player LPs

very nice pushead! that is what i am talking about. no flawless finish, perfect chrome, perfect looking historically accurate with all of the case candy stuff here. this thread is all about broken in , worked hard, oily, greasy, back alley, steal your lunch money guitars. yours fits the bill perfectly. absoolutely beautiful.

Re: Player LPs

Thanks man! If that's what you're looking for, here is my 78 LPS. I've had it a bit longer. Again, it was pre-loved, but I've given it a workout too.

Re: Player LPs

thanks very much! i am thrilled about being a dad. 38 yrs old and ready to settle down. within a month of quitting the band, the missus was pregnant. i don't miss the road at all. i also work in the film business as a prop guy and set dresser, so i still get to travel a little bit, but the wife can actually visit and stay awhile when i am away on the job. barely any late nights, weekends off.

My Fender is 12 years old and only has the tarnished hardware and a couple nics, my LP shows nothing yet as I just got it January, but I'm workin on it!! Congrats on being a dad mobprop667, I can only imagine the positive change in lifestyle for you. I hear it really opens your eyes. I'm still waiting, married only for one year so far.

Re: Player LPs

my '74 Custom is pretty worn, beat and weatherchecked. Just mojo though.

pretty hard to see the weatherchecking in that pic, but here's a headstock photo to give you the idea.

Re: Player LPs

this is what i am talking about! very nice dwagar. we get to see so many great pics of beautiful historics, near mint bursts, and all of the beautiful rarities out there, it is nice to show some love for the tried and true, really loved, battered and bruised trusty guitars in our posession. keep em coming, these are all great lps.

Re: Player LPs

thanks guys, IMO if a guitar is beat up, weatherchecked, etc., it only shows that someone really loved to play that guitar (it's more than likely a 'good one'), and to me, that's more important than how pretty it is.

My new used LP Special faded... Some people cant get into it... but faded works perfectly for me. Its an imperfect paint job. You buy it used... WHO KNOWS??

My stalwart Studio (Ive replaced those knobs with many different shapes and colors since the pic. I finally settled on black top hats. Ill haveta post new pics now. Clearly Studios were MEANT to wear tophats...

Re: Player LPs

when i play out, i sometimes get questions like "why does your guitar have a chrome and uncovered pickup, and gold hardware?" or "why dont you take better care of your gear?" and most of the time i do not even bother to tell them that my guitar looks this way because i love it so much. this thing gets played to death. i reach for this one first out of habit and instinct. i also have an american vintage 52 tele reissue that i love, but not as much as my custom. those of us that have found our perfect guitar know what that feeling is.

Re: Player LPs

Indeed. I like keeping the guitars clean, and shiny, but I also don't sweat aging or scratches. I usually like matched hardware, but it depends on how I think it looks.

I had the black stopbar and bridge with the original gold posts for quite a while, until it got so rusted that you couldn't tell anymore.

Re: Player LPs

My mismatched pickup and hardware choices are made purely from neccessity rather than my personal cosmetic preferences. if i could have gotten everything to match, great, but i am not sweating it. i got the bb pro in the neck for free from a friend, to replace the nasty circuit board" pickup that was in there, and the duncan jb was a quick replacement for a crapped out pickup while preparing to leave for a big gig. turns out i loved the tone of the thing and thats where it stayed. besides i have sweated most of the gold off anyway. it seems that my sweat is the best liquid solution for relicing gold hardware. i offer my services......sweat reliced gold hardware.....only 200 bucks! obviously i am kidding there.
