Gibson Les Paul Standard 2004 spec confirmation

ok have been digging around alot and think I have worked it out.
I am trying to get the same spec as a certain guitar and think the closet I have got is a 2004 Les Paul Standard.
Can any body confirm that my information is correct for a 2004 Les Paul Standard.

1) fret board - rosewood
2) scale length - 24-3/4"
3) binding up the side of neck goes over the ends of frets
4) headstock has the slightly lighter coloured Les Paul Model logo
5) headstock angle 17 degrees
6) neck - mahogany
7) neck - short neck tenon
8) body - carved maple top and mahogany back
9) weight relief (ie swiss cheese not chambered)
10) thin binding in cutaway

If any body knows if any of this wrong please let me know so I don't spend my money on the wrong thing

I don't know about #4 and #10, but the rest sounds about right. But shouldn't those specs generally apply to pre-chambering, post-Norlin Les Paul Standards?

I've said this a million times. ALL Les Paul Standards from '02 to October of '06, when chambering entered the picture, have the same specs.

Re: Gibson Les Paul Standard 2004 spec confirmation

Examples of chambered LP Standards go back as far as 2002 and possibly furthur. They are not the official spec but they exist and are not terribly rare. The April 2002-2006/7 LP also has nickel instead of chrome hardware.

Re: Gibson Les Paul Standard 2004 spec confirmation

2004 Std will also have:
- Burstbucker V (or Pro) pups with nickel covers'
- If you pull the pickups it should have something like LP 5 (50's neck) or LP 6 (60's neck) pencilled under the lacquer,
- cream plastic jack plate,
- nickel plated hardware,
- tulip, kluson o' like tuners
- nashville bridge
- AA (or AAA) top

I think standards were still 100% 1-piece backs then too.

Re: Gibson Les Paul Standard 2004 spec confirmation

2002 is when they re-tooled the LP std. - actually mid 2001- the easy way to tell the latters- they have Klusons instead of grovers and top hats instead of speed knobs. This is also when we first got a choice of 50's or 60's necks, BB's and Nickel hardware. You also got more colors and graded tops and +
models. Gibson was on a roll then. It was the height of the internet dealers
and from 2002-2004 a lot of product was sold.

Re: Gibson Les Paul Standard 2004 spec confirmation

Hi Guys, wondering you can help. I'm thinking of buying this guitar. Owner says it's a Studio. Iv'e checked the # and it's a 2004 model from Nashville. But it has Dot inlays so what's going on? also I want the standard Humbuckers 490R and 498T, just want to make sure this is a Studio with the Humbuckers, Mahognay/maple top body etc. cheers Ray

It looks like it has a flat top? If so it is a Les Paul Special with humbuckers. Not a Studio.

Yep.

Surely if you want a 2004 though the serial number will tell the tale?

Here's my 2004....

Look at the Traditional model, add the burstbucker pro's.

That's pretty much it.

Sent pictures to Gibson along with the serial number and my Les Paul is a Standard Honey Burst. The pickup cover was removed by the original owner. The pickup cover is in the case
