Re: 2007 Guitars of the Week (Quality?, Value?)
Humbuster,
Thanks for the pick of the Mahogany Top Les Paul Antique. I just bought one myself and it arrive yesterday. But your pick was enough to keep me happy until then. The stock pics online don't do it justice. A couple of questions: 1) Did you install the pickguard yourself? Mine came with it uninstalled. General Question for anyone: 2) There is a small gash on the binding on the top of the neck as shown in the third pic. Is that considered a blemish? or just bad binding job and you get what you pay for when you buy online? The guitar was advertised as mint and "as new". I might just pose that question on a new thread. But other than that the guitar looks and sounds amazing. Couldn't be happier. Thanks. |

Re: 2007 Guitars of the Week (Quality?, Value?)
Hi LPClassicO7,
Nice guitar. I have the same. I installed the pick guard myself. It was easy, just get in position and use the truss rod tool to screw it into the guitar. It takes about 30 seconds and was the best $15 bucks I ever saved. I just discovered little ding on my neck binding but I think that I was responsible for it. I really like the all mahogany body. The Classic '57s totally rock. Anyway after about 6 months of playing and such there are now a few dings that have made it mine and not the factory's. FWIW....regards-Tralf |

Re: 2007 Guitars of the Week (Quality?, Value?)
I have a GOTW #4 Explorer Pro flame maple with sunburst. It's a great guitar. It looks cool and plays great. The only thing that is disappointing about it is the pickups, the 496R and 500T. They just don't have any bass response, so I'll be swapping those out.

Re: 2007 Guitars of the Week (Quality?, Value?)
LPClassic07,
Yes, I put pickguard on myself, took 10 minutes and was very easy. I cannot find any flaws with mine and it is one of the best production Les Pauls I have ever played or owned. To bad about the mark on your fretboard. What does the seller say? I really like mine, however I am covered on the Les Paul front by my R8 and may sell my Classic. I want to live with it a while longer before I make any quick decisions. |

Re: 2007 Guitars of the Week (Quality?, Value?)
I bought week 15, unfurtunitly the top started to come off from the body and gibson couldnt repair it. so they are sending me a standard goldtop.
So for the record there is one less GOTW out there. |

Re: 2007 Guitars of the Week (Quality?, Value?)
Hey Humbuster and Tralf,
So I assume your antiques had predrilled holes if you're putting them on in ten minutes or less? Unfortunately, not the case with mine. In regards to the scratch the seller immediately offered me a $50 credit and said he didn't need to see a picture. I told him $50 is nice, but $75 would make me happy. He did the $75 credit. He's a powerseller and photographs all his guitars in the same way, so I would tend to believe the scratch was overlooked. Actually, there are other areas of slight wear on the top neck binding. It's strange because other than the binding I've never seen a guitar in such perfect condition. But Tralf, I get what your saying about the dings and whatnot. It's 1 of 400, but 1 of 1 with that particular scratch. |

The Gibson USA pages for them seem to be gone. Here is a link to the Gibson USA pages on the Gibson Japan site that has them. The site is kind of quirky/buggy and half in Japanese. Gibson GOTW Japan |

Re: 2007 Guitars of the Week (Quality?, Value?)
I have the GOTW #15, Red Les Paul GT.
I love it, aside from having a rythym pickup that's a little muddy. Changing out that mud pup for a better one and nailing down a real metal pickguard is on my to do list. As far as it being a jigsaw puzzle guitar and all that mess, I dunno, I just know i love the sound and I got it for less than a thousand dollars from what MF and GC were asking for it (so what if it had a tiny crack in the headstock?). I agree with some of the guys on here, I didn't buy it for an investment, I bought it for an instrument. ![]() ![]()

Re: 2007 Guitars of the Week (Quality?, Value?)
Just picked up my third GOTW, so now I've got the week 37 - '67 SG Special with P90s, the week 43 - Explorer with short maestro, and the newest addition...
Week 41 - Nashville Les Paul Jr. ![]() Seriously though, all three of these guitars combined cost me under three grand. Some of the GOTWs are a helluva deal. ![]() |

Re: 2007 Guitars of the Week (Quality?, Value?)
Howdy LPClassic07,
Nah I just leaned on the screw a bit with the truss rod like I said, no pre drilling or the like. In fact somebody here gave me the instructions back last fall. Regards-Tralf |
