No more '60s necks on Standards?

Hi all, the sales guy at my local GC told me today that Gibson was discontinuing 60's necks on Standards... is this true? Why would that move make sense?
If this is happening, I'mma have to go back up there and put myself in debt pronto! THe Desert Burst is calling...

Sorry if this is Germans.

Re: No more '60s necks on Standards?

I know that the Standard faded with the '60s neck has been discontinued (they are still making them with the '50s neck). As far as the regular Les Paul line, I hadn't heard anything.

Re: No more '60s necks on Standards?

One one hand, it would shock me to see them do that. On the other hand, Gibson USA went to chambering across the board and didn't give a crap what anyone thought.

Re: No more '60s necks on Standards?

Maybe they a want a difference (apart from pickups and AA flame) between the Classic and the Standard and go back to the time when the Standard only has a 50's neck and the Classic had the 60s neck. It could be that sales are down on the Classic and by offering only a 50's necks on the Standard people who what a 60s neck will have to buy the Classic.?????

That was my initial thought as well, but he was serious. He said the rep had come in the day before and told him the news.
Now, I was demo'ing a $2500 LP at the time, so I thought I should verify this information, lest I let it sway me to an early purchase!

Re: No more '60s necks on Standards?

the 50's neck isnt so bad. its not like the actual tree trunks of the originals.

I wanted a 60's neck and couldnt find one in my color so i bought the 50's and after a week never look back.

Re: No more '60s necks on Standards?

I've got both 50's neck Standard and a 60's neck Classic.
Like them both alot, dont care alot for the snot-green inlays,
but, what the hell, it is what it is.

Anyway, I've heard folks on this site refer to the 50's neck as
a baseball bat. It really doesnt bother me at all, and have no problem
switching back and forth. And I wouldnt say I have extra large hands,
long fingers though, that might be why it doesnt bother me.

I dont have large hands either, but, the 50's necks always seem easier for me to play....go figure

Agree, I like the 50's neck better. Just feels more substantial to me and my hands are not overly large

Re: No more '60s necks on Standards?

Exactly!

From what I've been told (like that really means anything) I should prefer
the 60's neck? just like me to go against the norm!

Re: No more '60s necks on Standards?

It wouldn't make sense to discontinue the 60's neck on the standard.

Re: No more '60s necks on Standards?

it would be dumb move from a sales stand pont as the 60's neck is more popular than the 50's, but it would be a smart business decision if classic sales were slumping.
