Hey all,
I'm new to this forum and I just wanted to know if anyone has this guitar or knows anything else about it... It will be my first LP, and I am really looking into this particular model so any help would be much appreciated. The finish I'd be looking to get would be the vintage sunburst AA maple. (Note the image looks more of a plain top) Gibson Les Paul Double Cutaway AA If anyone has this, can you please post a pic? I cannot seem to find this finish at GC, and want to see one for my own eyes before ordering. Your thoughts? Thanks! ![]()

Re: LP Double Cutaway AA
I have one in Ebony. This has become my No.1. This guitar is one of the best sounding/playing instruments that I have ever owned. I got mine at GC here in Nashville. You should really try to find one locally. I would not feel right buying a guitar of this level online.

I would never buy a guitar of this magnitude online. I was just trying to show a picture and link for people to see what I was referencing. (Since Gibson's website does not show) I am almost positive these are "chambered", and wanted to know what your thoughts are on the tone. I dont really have a problem with it, I know its all about personal preference. |

Re: LP Double Cutaway AA
I've also considering purchasing one of these special edition DC's in the transparent blue finish. I tried one out at the Guitar Center in Knoxville a few months back and was pretty impressed with how it played/felt/sounded. The only thing I would've changed would be giving it independent volume knobs and keep the curly maple tops that are featured on the DC pro (which I've also considered!) Ultimately I'll probably end up searching for one of those Standard LE's in the Manhattan Midnight that were discontinued a year or two ago. They're just PERFECT!

Re: LP Double Cutaway AA
The more I think about and look at those AA Double Cuts, the more I like them! I don't know why I was thinking that it didn't have independent volume instead of tone knobs! I think I'd rather have that than independent tone knobs anyways. Other big pluses (for me) are that Grovers come stock and the fretboard is bound. I don't know why, but I think it just looks more classy than the DC Pro with the exception of it's AA top rather than the curly maple. After playing that sweet arse Standard the other day (very sweet top!) at Guitar Center of Knoxville, I was ready to totally throw out the idea of getting one of the AA DC's, but now I just don't know! It'd save me a few hundred bucks too. Decisions, decisions!

Re: LP Double Cutaway AA
I will say this, I don't know if it's chambered or not but this guitar is very light. I have had more compliments on my tone than any of my other guitars. Also, you can get a cool kinda full but crunchy tone by setting the neck pickup on about 8, the bridge pickup all the way open and the switch in the middle position. Where the switch is, you can't accidently change your setting but it's not awkward either. The binding on the neck overlaps the edges of the frets which makes for a very smooth feel. I just don't have anything bad to say about this guitar. I love it!

Re: LP Double Cutaway AA
Hey....
I just noticed something... For those of you that have recieved the free 2008 Guitar Center Gibson Calendar, turn to month November. It appears to be a different model than the previously mentioned AA top... Gibson Les Paul Standard Double Cutaway "Drawing on 100 years of guitar-making experience, the master craftsmen at Gibson USA offer this alternative to the traditional Les Paul. The Double cutaway, featuring a weight-relieved mahogony body with a AAA flamed maple top delivers the rich low-end growl and sweet, singing highs of single cutaway Les Pauls. The added bonus of increased upper-fret access encourages you to solo freely all the way up the neck. For 2008, Guitar Center offers two stunning new finishes - Amber and Vintage Sunburst." |

Re: LP Double Cutaway AA
The Double-Cut Pro is one of my favorite guitars of all time.
What more could you ask for? Good price, good looks, good fret access, etc etc...

Re: LP Double Cutaway AA
That finish is awesome. My LP is finished in that colour. All I can say is that you'll love the finish, other than that, I have the normal LP not the DC.

I know this is a few months late, but...
I recently purchased a used Les Paul DC Plain Top in ebony similar to the ones posted above. I must say... Damn! this is one of the best feeling, sounding and looking guitars I have had. It is amazing! I did a lot of research on these prior to purchasing. I contacted Gibson to get more info. They do not even have that much on this guitar. All Les Paul DC's have been discontinued now. It appears that Gibson is promoting the DC Long Horn now, but it is not a Les Paul. The Plain top features 2 volume knobs and one tone. It was an exclusive guitar made for Guitar Center (Musician's Friend, Music 123) only and seems to have only came in ebony. Based on my research, most of these were made in 2006-2007. It seems pretty solid and weighs about 7-8 lbs., I do not think it is chambered. It is possible that the DC AA was also an exclusive, but I am not 100% sure on that one. I do not see it at any other music store based on an online search though and I know that not all great music stores are online. Those came in some transparent figured and transparent plain tops, blue, vintage sunburst, and black cherry. You will also find the DC Pro, Standard and Standard Lite models. These seem to only have 1 volume, 1 tone knob and the three-way switch. The Standard and Lite have 24 frets. The standards were introduced in 1998, and many have transparent flame top (figured) finishes in honey, black, blue, red. Watch out- there have been reports of counterfeit transparent black ones on other forums. The DC Standard Lite is obviously chambered and lighter in weight. I have seen a Lite with a single stop bar tail piece, not the tune-o-matic traditional 2 piece you find on most Les Pauls, but have also seen photos with the traditional. The DC Pro has 22 frets and a AAA curly Maple top, but I'm not sure what other differences it has. I believe the necks are slightly different with no binding, and no Les Paul branding. (Gibson crown on the headstock) I believe they all have 60's style tapered neck and BurstBucker pickups. Aside from all of the info, I will reiterate how awesome this guitar is. Very solid, great sound, action, and the feel is just so smooth!
