Standard Faded Discontinued?

I only see them with the 50s neck around and prices seem to have dropped. Have they been discontinued?

EDIT: Oops! Just read another post saying they are not discontinued. Why does everyone only seem to have the 50s necks I wonder?

Re: Standard Faded Discontinued?

I've got a 60's neck Standard Faded. Great guitar. Mine is an '07. I think all the 08's are 50s.

My Gibson dealer said that they were going to be discontinued - think I'd like to get my hands on a 50's neck in tobacco burst if the price was right...

I talked to Gibson 3 or 4 weeks ago. They are on the new 2008 price list. They did confirm that the '60s neck has been discontinued. I checked with the canadian distributor (who had none a month ago) and they now show them as being on order. Plus, I saw one on ebay a couple days ago and the serial number indicated a build date of february 9, 2008.

Me too I love the 50's neck and the tobacco burst......or the Limited BFG in bullion burst.....

I'll trade my:

Fender MIM Strat
Lero Archtop Six string (needs a refret good for slide)
Epiphone P-Bass Clone
Cheap No name Bass P/J pickups, only a tone control and a bunch of stickers
Lado Acoustic
Jay Turser Resonator/electric hybrid

for a good example of either...hopefully to someone in Canada so there would be no duties (Ontario would be best so it could be a face to face trade meeting halfway)... I have too much stuff I absolutely love but not enough room for it all...and I want a new Les Paul....anybody??

Re: Standard Faded Discontinued?

I was wondering about this as I just bought a Faded 50s Honeyburst two weeks ago and it was £300.00 cheaper than the same model with a 60s neck.

Gibson must be doing the offer worldwide to their dealerships. Something like buy 50 guitars off us at a time and we shall throw in some 50s neck faded models for free.

It happens. When I worked in a guitar store for a few years in the late 90s this kind of thing happened a lot, to encourage stores to buy in more stock at a time.

I'm not complaining as its a great guitar! I have three Les Pauls now and mormally I'm a Strat man. This thing is light weight and really sings both acoustically and amplified.

I also love the finish as it is light and feels good. My other two Les Pauls are heavier and have much thicker finishes too them.

No bad thing there I suppose but this new one feels great!

I only started buying Gibson guitars last year as I've been a Fender head since I was 15, so over 20 years of Strats has kind of got me used to a light vibrant guitar. This Faded Les Paul is just that guitar and it sounds all the better for it. Probably chambered which I think is a good thing as the wood actually gets to resonate properly and not absorb all the energy.

I've played hundreds of Les Pauls vintage and new and this one is a keeper for me. When I worked in guitar stores I got to try out thousands of guitars old and new so I know what I like out of a guitar. I don't get the heavy is better argument at all!

Light to me equals a well balanced rounded tone and lots of sustain.

I have a Tele made out of walnut with a Dimarzio HB in the neck that my father built and its like a tank. Well built but no where near the sound of this new Les Paul.

I used to own a Washburn Falcon in the 80s and it too weighed a ton. Great guitar but again not as sweet as this Les Paul.

I like it.
