why do we need so many guitars
Right so i know im new and i dont mean to offend anyone, but why do we need so many guitars,i think you only really need a les paul (or that type of guitar) a strat or tele and a shed machine and a good acoustic and you should be able to play most types of music on those four...ive found that when i was younger and had about 13 guitars and was always planning my next rickenbacker or musicman axis or whatever ,i spent less time playing... actually it was a bit embarassing as as i wasnt a pro,how could i justifiy owning all those nice guitars..yeah i know the old augument ive worked hard for em ect,but really come on, would you eat a sandwich in front of a starving man ,although i once saw a clip on youtube of a fat guy showing off his collection and i bet he would,it wouldnt have been so bad if he was a good player but he wasnt LOL actually i saw kelly jones (steriophonics) on tv last night and he is a shit player too and he has nice guitars that his ability to play doesnt warrant, so there is hope for me yet...just ranting out loud guys im sure if i win the lottery tonight my veiw will change and ill start voting tory http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/imag...leyes.gif(same as republican to you yanks) anyway regardless as to wether you have 1 or 2 guitars or ,i find all you guys an inspiration as you all have one thing in common you love les pauls and so do ihttp://www.mylespaul.com/forums/images/smilies/dude.gif

Re: why do we need so many guitars
Since when does playing ability warrant the amount of guitars someone can have? I am by no means a pro and only have 8 guitars (one Gibson LP Junior, all the rest Ibanez), as opposed to the 20 or 30 some have on this forum, but I can say that each one has a different feel and sound. You do have a point for only needing a few guitars to play most types of music, but for me and most others on this forum a guitar is more than just a playing machine. For me each one has its own feel and sound...I would almost go as far as calling it a personality. They each speak different and feel different in your hands, so if you find one you love and have the money for, there's one more guitar that you can play on a daily basis and fall in love with all over again.
Lol I sound so retarded. But that's the best explanation I can give

It's called an addiction, you either understand or you don't.

For some it's Cars, Watches, Comics Books... Etc...
Guitar Collecting is no different. Best part is you get to play'em all.

Re: why do we need so many guitars
I look at them more as pieces of art. Each one I have, in some way, shape, or form, is beautiful. I would rather hang guitars on my wall, and have the beautiful flame tops, and shiny equipment greet me every day, than any painting, or print I've ever seen.

Re: why do we need so many guitars
You can never have enough guitars. I wish I was only addicted to guitars, I would have all sorts of things. Sadly my addiction to watches, cars, and electronics keeps my guitar collection small, although I'm working on changing that

Re: why do we need so many guitars
I stay away from redundancy...... I have two LP's, a custom and a junior and they are very different as far as tone and pup set-up...
All my guitars are very different from one to the other.... Plus during a jam session or a gig, you'll only play two or three at the most based on the song list. But if someone wants to have 10 LP's at their disposal, who are we to say...... It's really no different than having 18 different guitars

Re: why do we need so many guitars
I look at it this way...If we did not need that many guitars, then the companies would not make so many.
I am losing the conest the most though, both my guitars together dont even cost $700 lol

Re: why do we need so many guitars
Someone once said:
'Life is a game, the one with the most toys at the end wins." I don't necessarily agree, but it fits as the answer to this question pretty well. For me it is because I have always loved music - for as long as I can remember there was music in my life. I discovered that the music I loved the most always contained guitars, so I learnt to play the guitar. I have had some success in my life so can now afford to have a few nice things, and some of those nice things are guitars. No excuses.

Re: why do we need so many guitars
Sometimes the only significant difference between guitars in my collection is the finish, but I like having a Goldtop for when I'm in a "Goldtop mood" and a Honeyburst for when I'm in a "Honeyburst mood", even though they are, more or less, the same guitar. I hope to one day have a desert burst or tobacco sunburst LP for when I'm in that particular mood.

Re: why do we need so many guitars
I've heard similar questions asked about a lot of things: photography gear, cars, guns, etc. Everyone has different answers to those questions.
I've had up to four electrics myself - a far cry from some here - and each was different. Currently I have two. As for LP's, I do find that the R6 is different from the R8, R9, R0 and '68 reissue (guitars I've had a little experience with, though I haven't owned an R8 or R0 yet.) I like each for different reasons. Same for the Strat, PRS, and ES335 that cover others I've owned. But if you get right down to it, I would probably be fine with just one, as I'm just doing this because I like it. I've liked a lot of guitars that I've tried from several different manufacturers. My budget (and wife!) determines that I can't bring them all home. However, the fact that I like it is why I'll own several, and hopefully a few LP's in the future. As long as the finances support it and my wife is okay with it, I'll bring more home as I can. I doubt I'll catch up with a few of you here, but that's okay. I don't begrudge someone for owning 20, and I don't knock someone for feeling one is enough. I'm pretty pleased playing my PRS McCarty and Strat right now, though I do miss my LP's. Oh, and no offense taken. This question comes up here periodically. David

Re: why do we need so many guitars
Well, is it me, or does this question get asked entirely too much?
. Why does anyone care how many guitars someone else has? It's like this, growing up, I couldn't afford shit. Since before I was old enough to work, I worked hard for my money. Now that I'm older, and the kids, the wife and home are all taken care of, the way I see it, no offense, but, I'll buy all the guitars I want (currently at 32). Why, because I can. I'm not a pro, not the best player, been in a few bands, so what. As far as the starving man, yes, I would eat the sandwich in front of him, after I bought him a nice big dinner. I've done it many times for people, and still do. No guilt, no regrets. Now, just because this question was asked once again, I'm going to go buy another guitar right now. See ya. wtf

Re: why do we need so many guitars
I need many guitars in the event that I am playing a gig, and I happen break a string during every song. You NEED to have 10 backups, just in case!
