Re: Slash and Billy G. with an LP
I never understood why people are always hating on Slash, he really has done a lot for guitar. I almost think he saved the LP in a lot of ways. I do admit his playing isn't always as good as some other people, but he wrote some unbelivable guitar music, a lot like JP a generation earlier.
The thing I never ever understand is why people like Ace so much, he always seemed like a total joke to me, I have heard many times that he really didn't even play on most Kiss stuff. Even if he did, the music is a total joke, silly kid stuff (i loved Kiss when I was 10)... Just how I see it, and John Mayer, is talented but just so g*y |

Re: Slash and Billy G. with an LP
Here is why.....damn, sounds like a 13 year old....
I saw GNR on their first tour opening for the Cult. I went with high expectations and saw a train wreck. First and last time I have seen Slash play. BTW, never knew the Les Paul had to be saved........WTF?

Re: Slash and Billy G. with an LP
Both videos sounded a bit shit, but I guess thats just the 2 bit audio of you tube!
I bet it sounded amazing live by all guitarists including Slash

Re: Slash and Billy G. with an LP
I got nothing against slash, I'm not a fan but if his music makes him happy good, if others like it even better, but jeez as someone said earlier he was playing out of key on La Grange?!?!? C'mon i kept wanting to tell him through the computer "solo in the C pent man, it ain't A anymore!" hahah. And dress like a grown up man, i stopped wearing tight pants last year and im only twenty, but thats neither here nor there, cool video, Mayer played the hell outta it

Re: Slash and Billy G. with an LP
Oh, you have heard it many times, well it must be true then.... Why do people insist on blabbering on about stuff they know absolutely NOTHING about?

Re: Slash and Billy G. with an LP
Wrong key, for krist sake.
Slash has become a cartoon image of himself. I was embarrassed. I always go into these vids of him with the hope that I am wrong and that I will hear some really great playing, and I am always let down.I also wish I knew his real name so I could address this on a bit more intelligent level - as I am not intending to be overly critical just for the sake of being an ass - than to keep using "Slash." It's a great stage name, but I cannot get myself to believe I could actually have a real conversation with someone who insisted on being called "Slash." Yeah, that's my problem, and he doesn't give a rat's ass for what I think. But please, Slash, for all our sakes, next time, check with Mr. Gibbons before you start playing.

I think guitar players rag on Slash because he is obviously not as talented as many famous guitarists, but he knows how to connect with people through music and I belive that is what makes him so popular. I really have no desire to make this personal, it is just how I see it. |

And Mayer was way better. Plus, slash was playing in the wrong key. Just. Plain. Horrible. |

Re: Slash and Billy G. with an LP
the only out of key parts was when he was bending down...I believe it was a total of 3 notes...but he recovered well....but you people love to bash him and blow things way out there because your wives wanna bang him while your kids wanna be just like him

Re: Slash and Billy G. with an LP
Funny-nobody commented upon how well that Strat(TELE) held up-kind of makes you wonder if maybe, just maybe, the guy pressing the strings makes more of a difference. I own 2 LP's, three premium "partscasters," two replicas(Burst) in build-a good player makes a Stella or Silvertone sound good.nez pas`OleLefty(I ain't even ducking for cover-it is axiomatic)

Re: Slash and Billy G. with an LP
Ill be the first to admit Slash can be sloppy as shit! and that asshole rose and Izzy were the main geniuses behind Guns...but Slash's contribution to the Les Paul has been very significant...for those that dont remember there was a decade called the 80's...if the 80's had its way and Slash never came around...this forum would probably look more like the Kramer forum (which I like...not knocking it). Maybe its just me...but in regards to the key change...it kinda sounded like they held the A for both guys soloing?
oh and while were on the topic of sloppy players: |

Re: Slash and Billy G. with an LP
actually at 2:48 johns little lick sounds sour...sounds like a sour G in there and as far as John keeping it in tune...I didnt hear any open chords there to judge...not to mention all these shitheads have techs and gear we'll never see or be able to afford.
