1970's Les Paul Deluxe

I own an early 1970's LP Deluxe. My father bought it used in the mid 70's for $300 dollars. It is a gold top. serial number is 130403. if anybody knows anything about this series and about this guitar let me know.

Re: 1970's Les Paul Deluxe

You have any pictures? How do the minibuckers sound? They were prone to microphonic feedback at times of high gain.
Does it play well?
You like the sound?

Probably a real nice guitar if it is still in good playing order. My '70 LP Custom needed a neck reset since the fretts/figerboard jumped about 1/4 " where they hit the body. It became unplayable. My '68 LP had no problems though. Some survive the passage of time, others do not.
Hopefully you are playing it and grinnin' up a storm

Re: 1970's Les Paul Deluxe

I will try to get pics but camera is sorta m,essed up and my dad modified it in the 70's because he wanted a better sound he said it sounded great when he bought it and it played like a dream when he bought it and now it still does but now its alot better after he modded it with super distortions these were some of the original replacement supers. I played it today and it just felt so different the guitar was set-up by him and he has the strings so low but still gets perfect sustain and no frett buzz. The guitar has survived age but with alot of wear the gold darkended a bit and some of the body warped but it still sounds great. the neck is perfectly cut super fast. i love its history and the sound it produces. one of the best les pauls ive played

Re: 1970's Les Paul Deluxe

Sounds like a great keeper for life. Especially with the family history. Thanks for the story.
I'm the only one in my family into music.

Does your epiphone classic trans black quilt top kill your dad's gibson in looks and sound?

If you read all his threads on other forums this kid seems to have everything. Oh and apparently everyone tells him he is gonna be the next jimi hendrix, he's very modest!

Re: 1970's Les Paul Deluxe

sure, you can get lots of info on it here.
Post pics when you can get them.
It should have Made in the USA stamped on the back of the headstock?
100,000 series can be anywhere from 1970-75.
Does it have the original pots? can you see the pot codes on them? That's the best way to date these.
Can you tell if the neck is mahogany or maple?

You're right, never sell it. But good Lord, change the strings or you'll need a tetanus shot.

Nah, you can just boil 'em in Coke, they'll be good as new.
