Les Paul studio 1991 / is that maple neck???

I've searched about this and couldn't find any info. I have a 91' studio and I'd like you to judge from the pics if this is a maple neck () cause as far as I know it should be mahogany. By the way, whatever it plays extremely well and has all the LP qualities...maybe the pickups will be changed someday.

Ah Gibson does some querky things at times, Maybe just a batch got made that way or many did, hard to say , Before you do new pickups, replace your caps with something far better, The stock ones are total trash, You wont believe how much better just new caps can make your guitar , though I have handwounds now in both Les Pauls with Paper In Oil type Caps , Vintage Vs Modern wiring as well

Thanks Don. Do you suggest at some point to change the whole wiring as well as the pickups? Also I believe that because of the ebony board along with the maple neck the guitar has bright tone which I like but because I don't use that much distortion I need to make it more vintage sounding. Do you recommend any pickups?

We have alot of pickup winders here,. I have WCR' Fillmores and a set of, as present very limited " MarksterBuckers" hand wound for me by another forum member, I went Vintage Wiring and Vitamin Q's in my main 92 Les Paul, Miss Honey, and the Markster buckers went into my Orville Les Paul, with a Sagamo Paper In Oil, Mil grade cap .015, and a VitaminQ .033
What Vintage wiring does give you is no or less treble bleed offs when you roll down your volume knob .
Are you mostly playing blues and classic rock?

Re: Les Paul studio 1991 / is that maple neck???

I have a '95 studio, but that sure looks like Maple, mine is mahogany. it also looks like someone has sanded the neck down to bare wood?
I do however like the feel on the maple necks, I have one on my strat Blackie.
At any rate, if it plays and sounds good, don't sweat it....
BTW a big welcome to you...

Thanks for the welcome

Yes the previous owner sanded the neck which I don't really mind. I like maple necks too, my strat has a 1 maple piece neck. I don't have much experience with les paul but I think it sounds very good and even when unplugged it has a nice acoustic tone + it plays nice (I have 11s at the moment in standard tuning) and everything feels ok

Thanks again for the info. I know nothing about wiring and that sort of stuff but what you said makes sense and it's definetely how things should be. I'm into blues and classic rock stuff and I almost never need more distortion than "back in black" for example. The stock pickups are versatile and are ok for me at the moment, when I decide to invest more on this guitar I'll contact the guys that make pickups and ask more specific questions.

Does anybody have a link for changing caps and maybe a list of different caps with values?

My Studio has the 490/498T's in it, is there a recommended cap replacement/upgrade for these pickups?

Thanks

Ok, first off, How would you like to change and improve the tone of your guitar?

NOS Sprague Vitamin Q .022 Paul Guitar Caps Capacitors - eBay (item 150216037954 end time Feb-20-08 18:57:08 PST)
This is HolyGrail, our resident Caps Kings Ebay store, contact him and he can sell you and tell you more about the caps he has in store, He meters all his caps, so they are the correct values stated, NOT All Ebay sellers or other cap sellers bother to do this

In the Tone freaks , look up the wiring library to show you the different types of wiring , but vintage wiring has this advantage, when you roll offf your volume, you dont lose your treble end response like you do in present wiring ( Modern) and your present ceramic caps are tone leechs ,
