When I saw the first thread I wasn't sure......now I am. He's taking the piss. Two threads, the second involving pictures but not entering into any debate......100% taking the piss, sitting back chuckling his arse off at the reaction he's gotten....again. Altogether too much time on his hands I think.

Before my Mod she was neck heavy (the same as my BFG).
Right now she is a little bit bottom heavy, but I prefer it.

Remember that in a pickup switch hole is also 0,14 lbs of lead

Yeap, the Mod is 100% reversible. Electronics is well isolated. Nothing is moving inside.

Did you know you can avoid getting buckle rash on the back of your guitar by applying large amounts of butter to the back before your gig.

LoL. Would have been a lot simpler to just sew/tape big fishing sinkers onto your guitar strap. You could even vary the distribution to balance it out to your liking.

OR....

Dear GREG,
My guitar is too light. Please remove the regular binding and replace with a thick strip of lead/tungsten.

Wow. does that really work? I've never seen a guitar that only weighs 1.4 pounds. Id guess the hardware would weigh that much.

Re: weight UNRELIEVING les paul! HOW TO!

I also hope that this is a joke. If not, congrats, as you have won 2009's dumbest and most worthless thread award..... Why would you add weight to a guitar if it's not going to have any effect on the tone in any way? Perhaps you expected the lead to resonate? derrrrrr! lol Your guitar will now resonate less because of the lead you added. What a genius we have here........ lol

If the guy's got what he wants from his guitar, what's so stupid about it? Just because you might not like the effects it has doesn't mean he shouldn't do it. Hes not asking you to stick lead in your guitar, its his instrument.

+1

Personally, I think it was a goofy thing to do, but if it makes him happy, more power to him. It's his guitar, he can do what he wants to it.

In it, I mentioned that several pretty good luthiers have balanced neck-heavy SGs by removing the strap pin, drilling the body and inserting a tungsten slug, then covering the slug with a plug and putting the strap pin back in. Worked great, added some weight to the guitar.

My Ibanez AR 300 and the Yamaha SG 2000 from the '80's both have 10.5 oz sustain blocks (brass, in this case) that are screwed into the body under the bridge, with the very heavy bridge screwed into that. The Yamaha in particular is one of the all time sustain monsters, and is still produced exactly that way to this day. Thing weighs in at around 11 pounds of neck through maple/mahogany/maple neck plus some very dense mahogany side wings.

People have routinely added weight to the headstock of guitars to increase sustain and change the feel of the guitar. Others have carefully selected denser, heavier woods for their guitars (I have maybe half a dozen all-maple guitars, including some Carvin neck-throughs, a Gibson L5 S, a Moonstone Vulcan with a single piece body of extremely dense maple burl, etc.) for the same reason. Travis Bean went with solid aluminum neck-through (all the way to the bridge) surrounded with a solid koa body. Dan Armstrong went with solid plexi. All were in search of the native guitar sustain (as in: not produced by gain or electronics) and specific tone shape that comes from deploying a heavy, dense body.

I dunno if adding lead to the control cavity of the guitar changes much other than the weight, but certainly there's precedent for the experimentation. And if the *feel* of a heavier, denser guitar is all he was after, it's certainly no more silly than the constant swapping of pickups and wiring and pots that provide incremental changes for large expenditures that some of the other members of these forums engage in. To me there's nothing but HUGE silliness in the mumbo-jumbo some of you *approve* regarding nitrocellulose paint, fabric covered wire, bumble bee capacitors and relicing a perfectly good guitar so that you can make it look as if it were played for a long time. That's just as much of a fashion statement for guitars like ripped jeans or platform shoes or wide collars or big hair or spandex or black greasy hair with guyliner. Seems to me we have absolutely NO room to say things like "The problem is that there are people like him in the gene pool" given the brainless foof that goes on here on a daily basis. The only difference is that this particular band of idiots has judged that one thing is cool and another is not, and apparently if you can get enough people nodding "Yes it is so," then you figure consensus makes it right. I'm thinking you're all refugees from the Ministry of Silly Walks.
+1000000

what the hell is wrong with some of you people?its HIS guitar and whatever he choses to do to it(unless he smashes it) is really none of your bloody business.would you like someone else to tell you how to make love to your wife just becoz he thinks you are doing it wrong?sounds dumb right?because it is.mind your own business.

and i do realize some smartass is going to tell me to practice what i preach and mind my own,or that i have just contradicted myself by posting this.be original.do something else to attack me.

it's his guitar.period.
