Gibson Les Paul Studio questions

Hi, I'm seriously thinking of purchasing a Gibson Les Paul Studio (left handed). I've got some questions...

1) I've played one at my local store. It seemed quite light. Are they chambered or weight reliefed? The guy in the shop couldn't answer.

2) I play mostly seated. The Studio I tried seemed well balanced... none of the body heavy, tipping over I've felt with other Les Pauls I've tried. Are Studio's usually this well balanced and comfortable to play sitting down or was the one I played a "one-off"?

3) Any other comments about the Studio would be greatly appreciated.

It's a big investment for me and I want to be 100% sure.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Gibson Les Paul Studio questions

1) If its a newer studio (which I'm guessing it is) then it is most likely chambered.
2) I don't know if its a "one-off", but many say the lighter chambered body is more comfortable. I know my chambered studio is more comfortable than my other LP's
3) I say if you really like the guitar (playability, tone, looks, etc.) then go for it. I've never regretted getting an LP. Though be warned you will acquire GAS.

Re: Gibson Les Paul Studio questions

You can't go wrong with a nice Studio. They don't have the ruffles and flourishes of the higher end models, but they're excellent guitars.

I own two of them.

They started chambering Oct "2006" (corrected) so you can figure it out based on that. For example my Studio was built March '06 so it's weight relieved, not chambered, and weighs 8.7lbs.

Re: Gibson Les Paul Studio questions

When I got my 2009 studio it had a few I would say warehouse scrapes but u wouldnt no if you wernt really looking for them its a nice sounding guitar and nice sustain. If you like the sound, feel and the lightness of the guitar get it, if you dont then try finding another gibson guitar.

Really? I thought it was earlier than that when they started.

Welcome to the forum! They are chambered. On this forum there people that either love the idea or hate it. Personally I feel that if the guitar feels great in my hands and sounds great then it's the right guitar wether chambered or not. BTW my LP is.

moonchild is correct, chambering started in Oct. 06. Before that LPs were "weight relieved" since around 1982.

LP Studios are great guitars, maybe the best value in the entire Gibson line. IMO, they are the best bang for your buck in the LP line. As far as balance, I've never heard of an issue with the balance of a LP. SGs yes, because of their light body some folks feel the neck dives down a bit. I've never had this problem, certainly not with an LP.

I believe you will love just about any Studio you choose, good luck.

Couldn't answer ?? I'll tell you what, they sure have some morons for sales people at some of these places. I don't expect a guy to know what size wrench fits the nut on the tuner but come on ! I have no idea how they get hired. Maybe they work strictly on commission so you can't get much if you don't pay a wage to start with.

I was in a GC once and noticed an Epiphone Ultra II on the wall and started chatting with a lad ( sales) there about it. I talked about the chambering deal and the weight ( Ultra II is chambered ) and he looked at me and like.... Huh ?? with the cow starin' at the gate look. He had NO CLUE what I was talking about.

How the he*# can you sell a product(s) that you don't know Jack Sh&% about !! Pathetic !

Re: Gibson Les Paul Studio questions

Ha... Ha. I've got to agree with you.

I live in Australia and in some music shops they hire people with a musical "interest"; not necessarily musicans (or more importantly, not guitarists). The guy I spoke to may have been a drummer or even a DJ... happy to sell me a guitar but not necessarly knowledgable in them.

BTW I wished Epiphone did a left handed Ultra II.

I like what I read within the Ultra specs. On paper they sound like something I would like to have... again if only they did them in a lefty.
