What do you need it for...gigs, recording, general jamming? Do you want the flexibility/versatility of a digital or the true tone of a tube amp?

What style of music do you play?

Price range?

Re: What REALLY is the best 30W amp?

For a good combination of unreal tone, versatility, quality etc, I was extremely impressed with the Genz-Benz Black Pearl 30. I played one at one of my local stores and was blown away by everything about it. There are a lot of demos on the main website. Of course there are better amps out there, but only if you have mega bucks to work with. Make no mistake, this amp isn't cheap. just over $1100. buck awsome none the less. This one gets my vote. My second place vote for quality/sound/best value would be probably the Peavey Classic 30.

Vox AC30, early 60s, cherry panel without top boost. Had one once, should never have sold it. If you see one lying about buy it.

I really liked playing through a Peavey Classic 30, but I have yet to become a real amp aficionado, so I have limited opinions.

I played through a Peavey Classic 30 once. I would definitely buy this amp if I didn't already have a Marshall halfstack.

Re: What REALLY is the best 30W amp?

I've heard vintage vox amps run really hot and are prone to failure. I've also heard the new AC30's sound just like the old ones.

Re: What REALLY is the best 30W amp?

Divided By 13 EDT 13/29 1-12 combo with dual KT66's. It's like having a Balck Face Pro and an early Marshall JTM 45, plus 13 watts class A, 29 watts class AB, boost on the vloume knob, plus killer tube driven spring reverb.

Not if they're properly set up. Do you think an amp could define a whole generation of music if it was unreliable. I've had 2 '60s AC30s, and once they were correctly biased with good quality output tubes they were 100% reliable.

There have been a lot of different models of AC30 over the years, and several circuit designs. AFAIK the cherry panel non top boost AC30/6 has never been reissued. They are a great sounding amp.

I'll go along with some of the reissues with celestion blue speakers sounding quite good, but since all the amps they are a copy of varied a bit, it's hard to say they sound just like the old ones. Certainly don't sound the same as my last AC30TB.

Re: What REALLY is the best 30W amp?

This question cannot be answered. What does "best" mean in this context? You probably should ask, "which 30 watt amp do you guys prefer"? I'm not trying to be anal, but these "which is best" questions drive me nuts! Sorry, I just had to get this out, carry on.

Re: What REALLY is the best 30W amp?

Peavey Classic 30 is great... biggest bang for the buck.
Vox AC30 is awesome for that particular tone.
Laney AOR30 if you like RATT.
There's a Marshall 30 combo, forget the name, but kills.
Lots of choices... I bought a Krank Rev Jr. with a 1-12" cab.

yeah if you mess with the wattage adjustment you can get those good tones at low volumes on the advt30

Re: What REALLY is the best 30W amp?

I absolutely LOVE my Gibson GA-30RV Super Goldtone Combo! They're discontinued now, but you'll find one on Ebay fairly often at about the $1,000 price range, and IMO I can't imagine anything better in that price range. Check out the Harmony-Central reviews of all the Super Goldtone line.......that's what convinced me to buy one, and I couldn't be any happier that I did!

I picked up an old Crate Vintage Club 30 and I am really happy with the tone I am getting from it. Only cost me $200 too.

Budda SD 30, and Peavey Classic 30 would be my choices.

Re: What REALLY is the best 30W amp?

well although the vinatge lovers(and boys believe i´m one of yours) are gonna flame me the ebst 30 w combo for HOME USE (c´mon read agin i said Home use only) is the VOX Valvetronix AD 30. the amp sounds really wondeful and is quiet enough for shredding at home.

but in general the fender blues deluxe in the 30 w version is freat.

plus there´s areally cool 30w combo version of the marshall 1987 sj out to be had

Re: What REALLY is the best 30W amp?

I think for 30 watts I'd buy 6 Epiphone Valve Juniors and build 6 different 2x12 cabs (different speaker models) and have a 30 Watt wall of sound....
