Talking NGD: Les Paul Traditional Iced Tea

So, today was the day! Actually, when I went to the shop yesterday, I told them to order a light burst and then I would pick my fave. Well... the finish of the IT just stayed in my mind and deep down I knew it was the finish for me.

It has a nice flame, which I'm hoping to catch better on a sunny day

In Denmark, Gibsons and Fenders are quite expensive (I paid 3K). I could have bought a VOS 57 GT a little cheaper but I didn't like the sound of that one as much as the trad. The latter has a much warmer, bluesy tone and... an LP must have flames!!!

Plays awesome, sounds awesome, looks awesome! What more could you possible ask for (exept the Laney Lionheart 5 watt amp I tested it on to go with it lol)

Right now, I'm still a little stunned having pressed "accept" on the CC terminal, however, It's a beautiful guitar and I'm sure it will stay with me forever (ain't trading this one for nothing).

Heres hoping a strat and an LP and a Vox amp make a good combi.

Ps: sorry for the unmade bed and crap pics: I took them quite fast

I think Gibson really scored a hit with the Traditional series. A LP Standard like it's supposed to be - no PCB, no hollow... er, "chambered" body, no bulls4it.

On the downside, the Traditionals are so popular that if history is any indication (Faded Series, BFG, etc), they'll probably be discontinued by Christmas, and replaced in January 2010 by a "signature" or CS Traditional that's no different, but at 3x the price...

I think I wouldn't buy the pro even if I had the chance: plain top, coil split (???) and 60s neck are not for me. I just wanted a good old fashion LP- and that's what I have

I'm not an expert by any means but I really like this guitar. It called for me a lot more than the above mentioned VOS, which sounded harsh due to the BB pus and looked boring (I hate gold tops).

Re: NGD: Les Paul Traditional Iced Tea

That's a beauty alright!! Mine looks very similar. I understand about showing it in better light. The top has a 3D quality to it that shows up really well when you expose it to the sunlight. The tone is very thick and beefy too. The fat neck feels great. You know you got a real old school feeling there when you play it.

Beautiful man!!!

I'm sure its x100 better in person, there's something about the way gibson paints and finishes their guitars that look so much better in person than in pics

Re: NGD: Les Paul Traditional Iced Tea

Guys, help me out here: I just noticed that there's a LITTLE more space (max 1 millimeter) between the beginning of the neck and the neck pickup ring on the right side compaired to the left side... Is this a fault or could this be because the neck is inserted by hand?

Anything I should worry about? (I'm always very sensitive regarding my new guitars).

It's a Gibson, not a PRS. There will be fit and finish issues, I've had that exact issue on my standard before...

Yes, that is 'normal'. Sometimes they come out square and most times not so much.

The bodies are cut and routed\drilled using a CNC, so in theory, they should be pretty accurate. The insertion of the ring's screws themselves can pull or push the ring up or down from "centre". I wouldn't worry about it, but if it bothers you, try loosening the screws a bit and moving the ring by hand.

BTW, nice guitar...

Re: NGD: Les Paul Traditional Iced Tea

Nicolai, yours looks really OK. You're looking at minutia, and IMO LP's are NOT about minutia they are about the overall mojo they deliver which a PRS IMO cannot, despite that I think PRS build quality is superior hands down.
