Replacement truss rod cover?
Hi all,
I am new to the forum and have just purchased a new Gibson Les Paul Traditional in Heritage Cherry Sunburst. I wish to replace the truss rod cover with a blank one as I don't like the looks of the scripted one. I have found this one on ebay and was just wondering if anyone could tell me if this is the correct one for my guitar? GIBSON USA GUITAR TRUSS ROD COVER - BLANK LES PAUL SG on eBay (end time 18-Jul-09 15:57:36 BST) Thanks for any help, Russ

Re: Replacement truss rod cover?
Looks good to me, it also states it should fit both SG and LP so I guess it's a safe bet...

That should work fine. There are a lot of places that sale those. If your in the USA you might want to try sweetwater. I think they do free shipping.

Re: Replacement truss rod cover?
Thanks for the the help guys,
I'll get some pics done soon and post them! Im really pleased with it. It's my first Gibson guitar. I will get the TRC ordered, it seems quite a few Traditional owners wish to swap it for a blank one! Thanks for the welcome, Russ |

Re: Replacement truss rod cover?
I don't blame anyone for wanting a blank or "Standard" TRC on their Traditional. I considered putting a "Standard" TRC on my Traditional initially, since a 90's Standard was what I'd originally developed a fever for.
However, I decided I'd rather buy a six-pack with the money. And maybe 10 or 20 years from now, should the Traditionals have become known far and wide as being some of the better LP's to ever be manufactured, perhaps the Traditional TRC will be more widely viewed as a positive rather than a negative. How this post helps the original poster find the correct blank TRC is hard to fathom, but sometimes I'm just a bit yappy!

Re: Replacement truss rod cover?
Yeah, i think for me, the name 'Traditional' means nothing (compared to Standard, Custom, or even Classics). But what got to me more, is that it seems like theres too much writing on the headstock. 'Gibson' and 'Les Paul Model' that says it all right there, thats all i need

Re: Replacement truss rod cover?
The blank will look cool.
I had a metal trc etched with my guitar's name on it (Impaler) and it gets great comments every time I open the guitar case. Of course, my guitar is a Custom and the headstock has a different look with the split diamond, but you get the idea. I play metal and my intention was to elevate the cosmetic evilness factor a bit to keep up with the sonic evilness.

Re: Replacement truss rod cover?
Can remember years ago when the '63 Split Window Corvettes came out.
Everyone was having that middle bar cut out to match the next years '64 Vette & there were actually body shops with stacks of these things in the back taken from other Vettes. Well, I think you all can surmise the affect this had on resale later. So, I'm not changing a thing on mine either way!

At the moment though, I really don't feel that the "Traditional" TRC adds anything to the guitar and would possibly even lead people into thinking that there is something different or special about the guitar, when in all truth, it is just about as standard a Les Paul as you can get (just what I wanted). In my opinion, it is the new "Standard" that should have had a different name on its TRC (maybe "Experimental" as I have heard it reffered to on many occasions) as this is the modle which seems to have moved away from the original Les Paul guitar recipe. That's just my inexperienced opinion anyway, Russ |

Re: Replacement truss rod cover?
Hang on to your Tradtional TRCs, I picked up a Traditional off Ebay a couple of weeks ago and the seller said this was an early production run and it came from factory with a Standard TRC. I wanted the " correct " TRC. I contacted Gibson by email about ordering one and they would not sell one to me.
In response to a second email about the " production " problem and a photo of the front and back of the headstock, Gibson as a courtesy sent me one for free. |

Re: Replacement truss rod cover?
yeah, i stepped on my lp classic trc last year and broke the top screw hole. went to guitar center to replace it with a blank one. it just looks way better to me with less writing on the headstock...
