Couple Questions... I have pics

Just had a couple questions about my LP... Opened her up this morning, wanted to check her out and see if she actually was chambered. This is the first time I've done this, basically I'm wondering

a. Is she chambered? I got some pics, I'm thinking she is. Weighs in at 9.6 pounds on the bathroom scale, and is louder acoustically than some of the non-chambered Customs I've played. Basically, I think so but I'm not sure, although I think one of you on here can tell.

b. I'm going to order some NOS capacitators on Ebay, as I rarely leave my tone and volume controls on full. What do you guys recommend? I was looking at either Bumblebees or Black Beautys. I'm not sure which are the capacitators in the picture... can someone point them out?

c. When I DO order my caps, do I need to worry about the voltage rating? I know they should be around 0022uf, but is it ok if they're 600 volts?

d. Also thinking about getting a treble bleed kit... my friend says it helps the tone alot. What is this exactly?

Thanks a ton guys.

Re: Couple Questions... I have pics

I don't think you can tell about chambering from those pics. Someone else will know for sure. Is this your '07 GOW? 10 lbs doesn't sound like chambered to me.

Show us some pics of the pretty parts!

That sounds pretty damn heavy to be chambered.

Does to me too. I don't pretend to be "knowledgeable", as I only own 2 LPs, one weight relieved and one very nice Historic. But if a chambered LP weighs ten pounds...

My weight-relieved '92 is 10.0.

I had no idea the control-wire rout was a "tell".

Re: Couple Questions... I have pics

At that weight its not chambered. The pictures you've posted are of a standard? Theres no pcb in it so thats not an 08 standard, so therefore weight relieved, not chambered. Thats if its a standard though, you didn't specify.

PCB and Chambering did NOT come about at the same time.

Until proven otherwise, I vote 'chambered'. I have two 'chambered' Les Pauls, and neither one is particularly light.

Sorry for not specifying, it is a 07 GOW, not a Standard.

More pics coming, one I get my other computer with pictures on it working.

Re: Couple Questions... I have pics

The jury seems to be out on a three-martini lunch on this model being chambered.
"2007 Gibson Les Paul Classic Antique Model. Standard Les Paul features that pretty much everyone knows; mahogany body (very nice grain on the wood), maple top with a nice AA flame to it, uncovered '57 Classic and 'Classic Plus pickups, vintage tulip tuning keys. The Gibson logo on the headstock and the crown inlay (which are normally found on the SG and ES-335) are done in mother-of-pearl, which is real sweet. The weight of this guitar is what sold me. Could have sworn this thing was a chambered body but I checked with the guitar tech at Guitar Electronics in Phoenix and they assured me it's a solid body. It weighs about 7-8 pounds. At this point in life, wearing a 11 pound anvil over my shoulder isn't the best option in the world. The only feature I will NEVER like on Gibson guitars are those RIDICULOUSLY SMALL strap buttons. Immediately put on Dunlop strap loks. It's been said before and it will be said again; "Gibson, PUT MORE ROBUST STRAP BUTTONS ON YOUR GUITARS!!! WE PAY ENOUGH FOR THEM!!!"
Gibson is pretty consistent at being inconsistent, so I dunno.

But IMHO if 10 lbs is chambered, it's chambered ferro-cement.

I have an '08 Standard with no PCB. It was about mid 2008 when the "new" 2008's came out with the PCB. Those made in the first half of the year were just like the '07s with the pre-PCB wiring & pots.

Dunno if that one is chambered but I sure as hell know that you can't tell if it's chambered from looking into the control cavity!

I kind of thought of that, I thought I was going to take the plate off and see if it was hollow... but then I realized that doesn't exactly work.

Re: Couple Questions... I have pics

You should be able to tell by knocking on the body. If it's chambered itt should make a more hollow sound.
This would, of course, work best if you had a solid one to compare with.

I may be wrong, but both my Classics, one being a GOW, are chambered, and both have the large rectangular wiring channel, which was routed at the same time as the chambers.

Re: Couple Questions... I have pics

the caps, by the way, are the small orange round ceramic disks.

you aren't looking for .0022uF, you are looking for (in the area of) .022uF.

voltage doesn't matter on a guitar, however keep in mind the higher the voltage the larger the cap is physically.

Do you really care if it's chambered or not? Does it play and sound good? Then forget about how much wood is in it.

I dunno. The Studio in my sig was made in February '08 and has the PCB. Maybe the PCB's were introduced in Studios first?

Balsa wood. With a swlimming pool rout. And weight relief holes drilled horizontally out from that. Trem cavity with nothing in it. And then helium injected. A shaved pickguard, neo magnets on the pickups. Strung with 8's.

And it can only play Yanni.

I'm 30lbs heavier when I step onto my cousin's scale. Not a lard ass, I'm just saying that bathroom scales aren't always accurate.
weirdotis, why don't you send Gibson an email and ask them? Make sure to include your serial number.
